If it were me then I would use a computer or a CD player until I could afford a better source and concentrate on an amp just now.

unfortunately in the modern era, good source is very hard now. i understand that a lot of you guys get files in FLAC or lossless format, but most of my stuff are in mp3 ( ). considering in the fact that with the rise of the internet, everyone has a large library (couple thousand songs ya?), it is near impossible to completely change my whole library. this is why i am not so focused on the setting such a high budget for amp and source, as well as the fact that i have already spent so much on the d7000 that my budget leftover for amp is low. (i got the d7000 at a good price too, thanks J&R) It took a lot of convincing before i went in and got the 7000 at the price i paid, so paying more than $300 for an amp or better source is way too difficult and is not something i can really justify doing right now.

I think an improved sound is an improved sound no matter how high the bitrate of your music is.

I only heard what I can call the "real" difference when I upgraded the source.

so basically you guys are recomending that i should go for the DAC over the amp?

To get some more poke out of those phones.... you should really get a dac/amp Maybe even something small like the Octavart or Ibasso D10 for now.

Sounds delicious with my d7000's and a PinkFloyd modded x-can v3 running thru a v-dac from optical out of macbook pro. (couldn't ask for more, but was looking at the grace m902 a long while..)
