World Autism Awareness Day

Some of you may recall i have 2 lil' ones with autism. Take a moment to visit the site, and try and be sensitive to those around you. Sometimes the mother you see struggling through the store with that "brat" is actually doing everything she can to maintain composure as her heart breaks for her child with autism.

My little sister is an asperger with a dose of autism. Or was it something between those two, those two disabilities are related anyway. In any case, I know it is a pain at the times...

I've got Asperger and yes, they are related.
Asperger is autism spectrum disorder. But it isn't really that bad compared to other forms of autism. And if others can't tell/respect some have autism, that's just a symptom of their closed state of mind.

I recently read a fastinating book by Temple Grandin called "Animals in Translation" and was most impressed. Temple ia a high functioning Autistic woman who has authored a number of books. Her perspective is very refreshing. In case you have not seen her site here is a link. Dr. Temple Grandin Books and Videos Good wishes to you and your two special ones. Thanks for posting. One of my daughters, Rachel, teaches at the Manhattan School for autistic children. Yesterday she went to hear Temple Grandin, the noted animal behaviorist speak about autism. Rachel was impressed and inspired by how much an individual with autism can accomplish. Coincidentally, I just finished reading a Grandin book, Animals In Translation. Highly recommended for insights into how people (autistic and "normal") and animals experience the world.

actually i would think there to be quite a high proportion of ASD on head-fi given the level of obsessive compulsive behaviour.

I guess it would be more accurate to say she has either very bad asperger or mild autism, slight speech articulation and comprehension problems, heavily routined and it feels almost disastorous for her if her "plans of the day" cannot work for some reason. It was never clear to me as she was first diagnosed with autism when we were kids and now later as adults there has been talk about that she actually has asperger or such. In any case, her memory is incredible. She can remember a lot of stuff from her youth and dates when it happened, and even whos name-day that day is.

Hahaha, same here! I thought it was just the other people being forgetful and such, when it is actually me having the obsessive memory
Yes, very bad Asperger includes routine planning and the other things you mentioned.
I only have speech articulation, can't really understand emotions because I rationalize everything and intense interests. So I don't really have it that bad, just a few downsides to having a very good memory IMO

Well, I've worked in the software industry for the last 13 years, so, I'm quite familiar with autism-aspergers spectrum disorders. in adults anyway.

i have aspergers. and no one would notice unless i told them. i don't think its a serious thing in all honesty. but then again i am obsessive over things. examples, audio, history, anime, computers, metal music. i am pretty sure i wouldn't be the same person if i didn't have it and i couldn't except being a different person then who i am. but i have to agree with the earlier poster i could actually see lots of people with aspergers on this site do to our obsessiveness in the topic of audio. i probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for it. anyways sorry to revive an old thread just saw this as interesting.
