full-size cans noob...

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I plan on using the search function to research but just wanted a list of some of the headphones I should be looking at: looking for something that is closed with low impedance. I know of ultrasone, sennheiser, beyerdynamic, AKG... If you guys could just give me a list of some of the best headphones that meet my qualifications in the $250 - $450 range, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, I'm a bit of a basshead and listen mainly to rock, alternative, pop, rap/hip-hop...

What sound card or other equipment will you be plugging these headphone into?

I am assuming that by "low impedance" you really mean "don't require an amp".. Which isn't really true.

In any case, The Denon D2000 or the DT770/80 ohm sound like they'd be good for you.

Both of them shine with an amp.. but will work out alright until you get one.

In any case, I wouldn't spend more than $200 on a pair of headphones without planning on buying a dedicated DAC and amp.

Like bass? Ultrasone HFI-780! Punchy bass (not boomy, but really great punchy bass), clean sound, and they don't require an amp to be enjoyed, in my experience, although they scale well with one. I listen to rock, metal and rap-rock/rap-metal.

There's also the HFI-580. Other fellow Head-Fi'ers can talk about their experience with the 580s.

The D2000 are the best closed headphones I've heard in your price range. Balanced, detailed, versatile and with solid bass response.
