Ads and other stuff on main screen

Mods or Jude-- Can't we get rid of some of these ? This is getting to be very ridiculous. i have to scroll down 4 pages in my browser to even get to the list of sub-forums, and that is at resolution 1280x1024. Do we really need this much garbage all over the main page? I am a member of other forums with thousands of users and I doubt that this many ads and such are necessary, especially considering the huge number of business supporters that HeadFi now has (again posted on the main page).

Thanks,
- Frustrated Head-Fi enthusiast

Set the forum main page as a bookmark, click on that instead of going to www.head-fi.org.

This will avoid all that front page junk. Problem solved. Common sense > plug-ins.

Set your bookmark to be www.head-fi.org/forums

Sure you miss news, but you go straight to the complete forum listings.

curiously, despite the numerous banners strewn about head-fi is still passing the hat to pay for the operation of this site.

I see about 50 PAID links on this page, 6 of which are likley payed per click.

Might be, but then who say it still generate more than enough to run the forum?
I have no clue how much it cost to run a forum with 93,000 members (bandwidth, hardware, man hours, ...), but its not cheap.

hmmm..I think diyaudio.com has been around for longer and has more members, probably not tha bandwidth but I might be wrong..you don't see this many ads there...nor for that matter on HIFI-FORUM: Hififorum fuer Audio, Hifi, High End, Musik, Stereo, TV, Surround und Heimkino und Car-Hifi one of the largest german audio forums..average about 1000 users at any given time... we could all help save mother earth by shedding a few of those ads to reduce the load on servers and our own client machines don't you think?

total members includes people who have decided that there are better sites to talk about hi-fi gear.

it also includes the people who sign up and ask 2 questions about whether the ipod is ok for the HD580 without an amp....

i doubt head-fi has more than 10000 people who sign on at least once per week.
