I recommend a small butane torch - you can get them for under $10. A lighter works too, but the heat is not as consistent. Using a hair drier would be a pain in the ass, tough.

I recommend getting 6mm or .25" tubing for the 3.5mm terminal end. For the 'Y' part, i would get around 1.2mm or .5". And preferably heatshrink that shrinks to 3:1.

For anyone from Canada interested I see that Future Shop is now selling the Turbines, when I checked they were $179, not a great price but not bad either when you factor in shipping and other costs plus easier service than online they might be worth going the retail store route.

Shigzeo how do these phones sound? I am tossing between them and Klipsch Custom 2's and am undecided. I am leaning a bit towards the C2's because of the dual drivers and from what I understand forward midrange bat just can't decide. I'm currently using NE-7M's and like them but do find I'm having comfort issues and while I like their stage I find the airiness of them less than ideal for some genre's of msuic I listen to.

There is an entire thread of how these phones sound, as well as a link to Shigzeo's review of them. Go back, read it over, check the review. There are 17 pages of posts, many of them telling you they sound. Take advantage of what's already been said about them, including comments by Shigzeo.

OK, I'll be honest I was thinking HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO READ THE FORUM!!!. Glad you did . The Moster Thingy directly talked about many of the things I was wondering about and I think since I can try and if I don't like return the Turbines, I will give these a try. They sound like they will fit right up my alley, espcially if they are like the NE's on steroids without the airy feel I keep experiencing with the NE's. I really liked the packaging when I saw them at Future Shop and the price seems to be just about right ( a bit higher than my $150 max budget but I think the $30 will be worth it.

Thanks for this post. I was thinking about the C2 or 3 headphones and this helps make the decision to try these out a lot easier. I'll post back my thoughts after I get them but I think it will be an enjoyable evening

The packaging is nice to look at, but it really is needlessly oversized for its contents in my opinion. I really enjoy the Turbines though. I hope it turns out to be as worthwhile a purchase for you as it is for me.

On first blush I have to say the Turbines are starting on the right foot. Being like a kid getting a new toy I could hardly wait to try these so I sat in my van while my wife and son were doing a bit of shopping. The midrange on these is far better than the NE-7M's. I listened to Loreena McKennit and her voice was more in the room for me and all of the various old world stringed instruments like dulcimers and lutes were simply alive. I was thinking about these almost exclusively from a bass perspective when i first started to see posts on them but these are much more than bass and highs. The sound stage is also better in my opinion than my NE-7M's. Plus the comfort is simply divine in comparison to the NE's I stopped noticing them in my ears after a while, somthing I never had happen with the NE's.

The only thing I have not liked so far is the bass (it's was a bit too harsh), I think this is where the phone's will need some burnin to smooth out and start to sound the way they will ultimately sound.

Are these worth the $180CAN I paid? So far I have to say yes they are. I actually think they are a big enough upgrade over my NE-7M's to justify the price difference. They are a bit more Microphonic and I miss the chin strap ability I have with the NE's but I really am enjoying these phones alot and so far they seem to be very nice for all of the music I listen to which is quite eclectic in nature.

Well time to stop typing and do some more enjoying, someone said they gained a whole new appreciation for "The Wall" time to see if they are right?

Glad to see that your initial opinions have been positive so far. I guess that people tend to mention the bass a lot because it is probably one of the more bassy IEMs. However, one of the nice things about the the Turbines is that while they have strong bass, the other frequency ranges aren't horribly massacred in order to achieve that.

The bass really does benefit from burn-in, so hopefully it'll only get better for you.
