with foamies, they have a respectable soundstage just not what i was used to with other higher end dynamics. it reminds me of the um2 type of stage, quite intimate but well represented.

Well, just say a lot of bass indeed makes me feeling tired now. So I am not listening these now (currently HD414 padded MS2 are on my head....)
It will take a week to figure out these headphones.post #108 of 11073/31/09 at 2:35amI had the same experience at first. A 30-40 hour burn-in tones the bass down.post #109 of 11073/31/09 at 3:16am- wnmnkh

I connected Turbines to Beta22.....
Hmmm, wow. The details on bass got MUCH better. These phones, like others, benefit a lot from strong amplification.
Wow, just wow. I keep saying wow.... Beta22 really indeed changed Turbines.
Funny to realize Turbines are not intended to be used with insane amplification like beta22.post #110 of 11073/31/09 at 4:20am- SchneiderStudios

Well i just bit the bullet and purchased a pair. I'm curious to see how they stack up against the DT880 2005's. The thing that worries me the most about the Turbines, is the reported small soundstage - i love the large soundstage of the 880's.- shigzeo

880 and any headphone is unfair to compare to an iem. iems may have excellent instrument separation but they are far far below in terms of stage width, height and driveability.
i too had the 880 (2003 i think) and they remain my favourite phones of all time. the stage is massive on those while producing details that are just precise. i have never heard an iem to top the dt880 in both categories. even for details, i heard details in them that i am quite sure my old er4s would not have done.
the monster will produce a beautiful driver sound like the dt880 but not be able to supply the stage: no way.
they are great for iems, but... haha, not compared to full size phones.post #113 of 11073/31/09 at 8:09pm- pseudohippy

Ok, Ive gone through the whole thread and cant find any live photos of these things in the wild. I just cant go off of these marketing photos. I know looks are not very important but I would still like to see them if someone can post a pic of them or a link to pics. A in ear pic or just on a table or whatever would go a long way. Possibly the first post could be edited to add a pic like alot of these other appreciation threads.post #114 of 11073/31/09 at 9:13pm- Foe-hammer

Agreed. I'm not expecting the Turbines to out do the DT880's in anything. I too like the DT880's the best of my headphones, and unfair or not i'll be comparing the Turbines to them as a default reference. The only IEM's i've owned are the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia's. And they are garbage.Quote:880 and any headphone is unfair to compare to an iem. iems may have excellent instrument separation but they are far far below in terms of stage width, height and driveability.

Ok, now.... the bass has been toned down and sound got better.
I'd say at least these are kinda upgrade from Super Fi 5 pro..... If you are basshead they are INDEED upgrade from Super Fi.
Well, as I heard E5 (and E3) are more suitable for high-impedence phones... and I am not familar with portable amps thesedays... so I really can't sure.
But strong amplification indeed benefits Turbines in good degree.post #118 of 11074/1/09 at 1:53am- dC0m

Argh, my conquest for my Turbines have been delayed. MacMall called me to say the order did not go through so I shall reorder them once I get my full refund.
To those who have not yet realized and want to jump on the Turbine train, MacMall has them for about $105 (before taxes and shipping + applicable for live.com's cashback).post #119 of 11074/1/09 at 3:55am- SchneiderStudios

macmall looks pretty reputable. Plus they accept paypal, which is always a plus for me. I therefore purchased them from macmall (my first time shopping at the place). I was going to get it from amazon, like i do with a lot of my electronics, but $30 cheaper with next day shipping... cannot beat that. Take that amazon!Return HomeBack to Forum: Portable Headphones, Earphones and In-Ear Monitors- Monster Turbine Appreciation Thread
