Assembled dac,volume control
First sorry the pics are displayed on separate pages!
I not experienced in these things.
the ic is siltech 4-120 soldered to wbt topline plugs, the key being
to jig and clamp the wire to make maximium mechanical contact with the plug then just a little low temp high grade solder to fix.
These plugs are just gorgeous in thier consruction, the siltech is
7n silver, these are an old model, but obscenely expensive.
I used the same on my 4040 system and became addicted to the
sound, very delicate and natural with nice sound stage[can,t belive
I am waxing lyrical about bloody wire but there you have it, hifi
I just can,t stop myself.

I did not make the dac it,s Midiman flying calf that has been
modified by the addition of an optical input, rca sockets,a better
opamp and a power switch mode reg.
Yes I know, but to my ear it
introduces no audible noise and I have not heard it without,
and its advantages outweigh the disadvantages,I can run it
on anything between 4.5-7v handy because I use 5v 3800mah
bat packs to run everything on the portable rig regulating according to each components needs.
the dac draws 300ma[most I bet by the reg]and the stax 001
draws 280ma, so those Sanyo cells are just wicked, and you can
charge them in1.5 hours.
I have also made an in line LED battey level meter so I allways
know how much juice I have.
The opamps output 2vrms at 60ma cont current capability so they
seem to drive the DT931s with no poblem,or undue brightness
to my ear[I like a well lit sound stage]
the Stax 001s sound great also but for that rolled of top which
others seem to like.
I will open it up for pics when I can be asked,
the dac is a 24bit crystal affair cant remember the model at the moment.
The dac case is steel! and not light, I will make another in the future. mmmm more carbon pherhaps.
I would love to add an elecric data link to the cd but space inside
those machines is at a premium, plus I not sure whether it would be worth the agro.
I have listened to the rig being fed by my Arcam cd23 for comparison and it sounds excellent,
