Pearl Jam - Ten reissue 'issues'... - Page 2

Just a quick update for anyone interested in this album. The original album on CD is your best bet. I talked to a friend who has a few versions on vinyl and heard some samples. The original CD is the best and cheapest way to go.

If you don't want the CD, then get the German import vinyl album for 3 times the price.

I had heard a few selections on the radio from the re-mixed edition of Ten and I liked their more upfront sound, so just a few days ago I got the re-released vinyl of the original mix and the new mix.

Compression reigns on the new mix, drums and vocals pushed much higher up in the mix than the original, with guitars definitely taking a back seat. A good mix I think for listening to over the radio in a car, but in anything like an audiophile set up, I think you will be disappointed. Stick with the original mix by Rick Parashar.

Sad. This is why I prefer non-remaster (well, at least remasters done in the last few years) and possibly non-reissue CDs to rip. Not a hard and fast rule but more often than not it's true. Recordings are going to reflect their time, sure, and may not be perfect but that sense of era can be lost in a remaster or worse the album can be made wrong not better. If it's done well in the first place then why mess with it?

Sounds like the new Vs. and Vitalogy are ruined by aggressive dynamic range compression, and the vinyl was squashed also.

What's with these idiots.
