Desktop ultra dac rates - Page 2

Well, I assume no answer so far means....

1.) the DAC indeed has the problem with 88.2k and currently in redesign to resolve the issue.

2.) Tyll is too busy to test 88.2k samples yet.

I think that's an excellent idea. I'd also like to see a phase invert switch.

That's the one. It'll take a little while to test ... couple of weeks maybe as I've got to get an M-Audio transit to get 88.2 out of USB. So, it'll happen but it will take a little while.

You can also use an upsampler like the Musiland SRC-10

Yahoo! Played it today! SOunded just fine over my M-Audio Transit. It lights the 96kHz light on the UltraDAC, but it shows it playing on Foobar as 88200.

Dayum, been listening to the HDtracks free download sampler and boy does it sound good.

I have been downloading some from HDtracks as well, Oh my God does this stuff sound good. Tyll, if you haven't downloaded The Planets by Gustav Holst at HDtracks, you have yet to live life.

You downloaded or have them in HD? You used a HeadRoom dac to make the conversion to analog??

Click on the link from Tyll's post #20 and it will take you to the website that offers DVDA/SCDA downloads. You have to pay for them but the sampler is free and really demonstrates hi res format capabilities. Yes, I used my Headroom Micro DAC to transfer the optical signal off my Macbook Pro for the Micro Amp. Holly crap is music good, Headroom, you got it Right between my ears, thanks! Between these formats and the new power supply, WOW is life good, "WHAT, you said WHAT, I cant hear... ...I'm... ...I'm listening to headphones!"

Does your Mac support 24/96 through toslink so that it can send the signal unaltered.
Yes, all Macs do.

It is sooooo, sooooo, sooooo sweet!!! I also switched to using songbird to play my files as it supports FLAC and sounds so much cleaner than iTunes.

well guys, I´ve got the 24bits -88.2 files. Using the optical output of my external Creative XFi sound card I sent the digital signal to the UltraDac input and .... voila! ..... not only the Ultra Dac decoded the signal.... but what a terrific sound my god!! After listening to this sound quality I think that the CD has now its days counted

Also try Linnrecords.com for 24/96 masters. I really like several of them, including Helge Lein Trio - Hello Troll, Wayne Gareth Power Trio, Zwischentöne (Nuances) by Windwerk, and more.

Just wante3d to mention to folks that this months Stereophile (May) has an article about the Bel Canto USB link gizmo that will conver high-rez USB to optical S/PDIF.

I have to say that I believe folks should mostly save their money and get the M-Audio Transit. It has the same USB/SPIDF chip as the Bel Canto. The difference is the Bel Canto will do more to reduce jitter, but as JA points out in his article, contemporary DACS (which we have in all our gear) do an amazingly good job of rejecting jitter anyway.

The Transit can be used with ANY of our DACs to get hig-rez USB.

So which is better between using the USB input directly and the DAC->M-Audio transit?
