iBasso D10 Cobra -> HD 650?

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm somewhat new to head-fi and need some advice
I just ordered a pair of HD650s for home use and along with that, I ordered a D10 Cobra as a DAC/Amp. I was wondering if the D10 would be enough to power my HD650? If not, I'm going to upgrade my system this Christmas and I would like some recommendations (so I can save up enough money to get something not because it's actually Christmas since I'm an athiest and just buy stuff then to feel better ). I still plan on using the D10 for portable use with my iPod Touch, line out adaptor, and Shure SE530s.
Thanks in advance!

The d10 should get you buy until you can get a desktop amp at which point it could serve as your source. The hd650's need power!

My guess is that at first with just the d10 you will be satisfied but when you invest in a home amp you'll see a large increase in SQ.

Always keep your charge switch on when in use as a dac or the battery will drain for an unknown reason. Otherwise it will cause clipping. Keep it charged at all times. Other than that it is a great DAC.

My first setup was D10 and HD650, at first you think they are nice until you hear something properly amped, like low ohm headphones with D10

I just received my D10 and am using it with HD650 via a computer playing flac. I must say that I am not very impressed. I knew that the D10 isn't really sufficient to properly amp the 650s, but thought it would hold me over until I could get a better amp. I won't have the funds to get a better amp for quite awhile so I'm thinking about returning the 650 and getting another phone.

My question is what full sized phone would be better driven by the D10? Would the k702 be better suited to the D10? I really enjoy the soundstage of the 702s.

Any help is definitely appreciated.

Well, my D5000, DX-1000 and 325i all of them love D10, seriously good on all of them, particulary with D5000 it shines, but you need to roll buffers...

I never got why people would power non portable headphones with a portable amp. If it's all you got then it would work for now but I bet you'll love it after upgrading to a desktop sized amp. Give it an honest try and we know that you have the money to spend considering your headphone inventory.

Make sure you have the gain on high- it's not ideal for the 650 but it's not terrible (yes I have both). The K701 would be harder to drive if anything. The D10 is an excellent product IMO.
Try different opamp configurations too.

X2 If you are not happy with the HD650 with the D10, then you will definitely not like it paired with the K701. I would suggest getting something easier to drive like Audio-Technica or Grado line of headphones.

My experience is that low impedance phones pair well with the d10, like grado 325 or better or denon d2000 or better.

I use my HD650 with my portable amp when I am laying on my couch and relaxing. My couch is no where near my desk and full sized amp.
For this reason I say why not?
BTW... the LD MK 1 + can power the HD650 just fine.

Hi

I recently downgraded from Lehmann BLC to Ibasso D10. On the Lehmann, the HD600 and RS1 destroyed the 840 in every aspect. However on the IBasso, Shure SRH840 sounds better than the HD600 and RS1. The reason is because D10 does not have enough power for the HD600 or RS1. I feel the DAC section (optical out) is very good but the amp lets it down badly. They are great with portable headphones and were never designed to be used with full size headphones.

Thanks for the responses guys... please forgive the noobness

I guess my original plan was to use the D10/650 setup until I could afford a suitable desktop amp, I wanted to save up for a Woo6 after reading so many good things about pairing Woo6/650. Then I would use the D10 as my DAC. I've read that the D10 as a DAC is good, although I really have nothing to compare it to.

Would the D10 be a good pairing with the Woo/650?

If so, I think I'll stick with the setup since and see if things don't improve with some more burn in. I'll also try to roll the opamps before I do anything hasty.
