Sennheiser IE7 VS IE8 Discussion Thread - Page 3

If i have to rate my previous IEM in term of bass, with triple.fi as benchmark;

Triple.fi 5
Very good bass. Textured and defined. Able to go deep but lack body/feel. Affected timbre of some instruments.

IE8 6-10
450 hours burned in, midbass not more bloated when out of box. Bass is very polite, exist only when it's in the recording. Only lose a bit in term of definition when compared to TF10P (maybe BA versus Dynamic) but IE8 beat it in all other areas. IE8 bass able to go really low where u can feel the presence, not hearing it.

UM2 9
Really bloated with mostly midbass. Quantity >>> quality. Lot's of punch and impact but no real definition or details. Also smeared into lower mid. Fun listening but fatiguing too.

PK2 3
SA6 3
MylarX3 2

At that price I do think you should get the IE 8. Rock goes will with them.

thx for the benchmark, toughut
am a bit surprise that UM2 rated at 9 while TF10's only 5... O_o
the higher score the better, right?

UM2 win in term of quantity, as far as i can recall. In term of depth, texture, definition, etc, triple.fi easily win over UM2. But triple.fi bass quantity is really adequate only. I never feel it's overpowering but on certain music like like Rap/HipHop, i yearn for a little more bass.

the Ie7 have this smooth sound that makes you want to listen and listen to them, they are very comfortable and like many others have said, they light as feathers. I got a chance to open up the sennheiser ie7 and i found out why they are so light. nothing is inside the casing except for teh 10mm driver. is so light that makes me wonder if they are fake, but sounds is amazing. here are some picture if you want to check it out. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/s...0/index23.html

no mine were the same, freakishly light, im sure it was discussed in one of these old IE7 threads when a few of us first started getting them

edit: actaully if you click on page 2 the top post i mention it

How good are the IE7s for metal? Are they fast enough for stuff like nile?

I really don't like bass guys. I don't like bass in hip hop and rock & roll, these music types I listen because of the vocals (in Hip Hop, aswell as Rock & Roll the bass is big, but I listen to them because of the vocals). IE8 has more bass then IE7, would this mean I would be making a bad purchase? I need the vocals, aswell as clarity with the production, but mainly vocals.

Also, its as long as any normal earphones?

I kinda see myself as annoying to you guys now, this is the largest I have spent on anything

Thank you mark for the feedback, have open up the ie7, it seems very easy in my case. The driver inside look similar to yours?

yes the8 has more bass than the 7, the mids are clear on the 8 but the bass and treble do dominate them, the mids on the 7 are much more prominant. however if your really after all about the mids and not so much bass a shure might be better suited to you.

erm no, no way am i opening them up to have a look, they sound great and thats just fine by me, no asking to accidentally break them for me
post #42 of 89
I wouldn't mind hearing it, just as long as the vocals are clear and I can concentrate on them.

But a Shure might cost a lot you know and not square off well with the IE7. Plus they have lower reliability and through reviews I looked, people have said they don't feel so nice.

Is the bass on the lowest setting of the ie8 still more than the bass on the ie7 or are they the same? Read your PM
post #45 of 89
i would say yes it is, the bass on the 7 feels a bit deeper but not quite so punchy and abundant.

the bass on the 7 is really very very good but the bass on the 8 is awesome.

awesome not always in a good way as i find it too much, after a couple of hours and the the much calmer 7 is a welcome relief
