Massive revelation - the gain switch settings have been rearranged into a more logical order!

Yup.

Yes, it works very well with the Desktop Power Supply. Here's a pic from my desk.

Sorry, but no balanced outs on the back, but you can get adapters and use the front panel outs to your power amps. And the brightness filter is not on the unit.

If so, that's a huge bummer as I've been buying more and more hi-rez FLAC through Linn / HD Tracks, etc.
Sorry, there isn't a USB input chip that has broad support for high res inputs at design time for this amp. So only 16/44.1 on USB.

I'll look into this more, but it looks like either the M-Audio Transit or the Edirol UA-1EX would work up to 24/96.

Ah, the advantages of putting relays in the box.

Hi Tyll, Any trade-up plan for Balanced Desktop Owners?

Will be extremely interested to hear how balanced HD800s sound off of that stack, Tyll!

You and me both, mate. Sounds great with balanced 650s, 701s, and D7000, but I wants me some balanced HD800s.

That's interesting - are you no longer using traditional mechanical switches? Is there any advantage to relays other than convenience (for example as far as I understand there can be some crosstalk introduced at the various switches...?)?

Relais are normally used to keep the signals in the back of the case, for input switching for example. Using a relay allows the designer to make the switch much closer to the circuit instead of having to route the signal all the way to the front of the amp and back.

Not sure if this is the case of the BUDA but Tyll will certainly chime in!

Was just waiting for Tyll to allow me to pre-order this beauty. I'm getting HD 800 off the first batch. Will tell you when I combined both with some balanced stock cables.

the new stuff doesn't fall into a price range I would call 'affordable' at something like $3500 for the full stack with DPS but intensely intriguing none-the-less. Can I work a set off washing dishes and mopping floors at HR?

I would just love to hear what the ultimate set-up sounds like so I know what I'm working towards. Maybe I'll shoot down south for the Canjam event. Will you have this setup there? ...with HD800's maybe??

My RME HDSP 9632 has an optical out too. And it works in my PC.

If Sennheiser keeps delaying the HD800's I might just have to buy something else instead. That Ultra DAC is looking more tempting, and cheaper than an HD800 too.
