Amphora Headphone Amp Impressions - Page 15

I have an RWA/Alo Amphoria and a Mark Lawton LA2000 for a couple of weeks and they sound really amazing together. I want to thank them both for the great and kind communication. I have also promised to take a picture of it:

I don’t have a good headphone stand yet so I have to improvise.

Provisus, that is one heck of a nice setup you have. Enjoy it.

Not only splendiferous gear, but a really beautiful picture as well. I really appreciate how the color of the flowers and leaves set off the colors of the gear, and how you arranged the shot to get the sunlight to highlight the Jena cable and lighter wood of the phones, but not most of the darker wood of the amp. And whatever the improvised headphone stand is, it was a great choice for its color and height to make for a beautifully composed shot. You've got a really good eye to go with your discerning ear. Looks like you've got a great outdoor spot to take advantage of the Amphora's transportability as well. It's a great time to enjoy it all together.

Thanks so much for sharing all of that with us.

I've had the Amphora here for about a week now (to show at the L.A. meet) and it's a great little amp. It's got a very wide soundstage and is fun to listen to. If neutral is your cup of tea, the Amphora isn't, as the midbass and treble stand out the most which works very well on the K702. This amp would pair very well with a tube DAC. It drives the HD800 and D5000 very well. The K702 are less sensitive and are harder to drive but the Amphora is still able to drive them to loud levels.

My source is an Apogee Duet on a Macbook pro, but I am considering buying a RWA Ipod so it become more portable. (Using this rig at my work and at home)

I am also curious if a Havana Dac works well with this setup, can someone predict if it will have synergy with this setup?

I have not heard the Havana DAC but it looks like a very nice NOS tube DAC, and it should sound good with the Amphora. I'm sure Ken will agree. But hey, you really never know since all DACs have different flavors.

You should make sure that you have a return period on the Havana just in case it doesn't pair well with the Amphora.

Hey everyone,
I first need to thank Ken for dealing with what was without doubt the most annoying customer he has had to deal with, (Me). I finally got the money together and ordered one today. I'll post my initial impressions in a few days when I receive it. Thank you Ken for all that you do.

Kevin,

Not even close to being slightly annoying?! ha! are you kidding ?

I do hope you enjoy the hell out of the Amphora, remember the burn in of these Vcaps is huge.

Oh I know, I didnt even enjoy my 650s until way past 300 hours. But burn in is fun in my opinion. Almost every headphone I own sounded questionable in the beginning but now I enjoy them all for their differences. Dont worry Ken, I WILL enjoy the hell out of this thing. Should get it today after my two classes.
I do have a question though. I have an old Marantz 6200 TT. In the owners manual it says that sometimes the TT may not need to be wired to a grounding post, (Im assuming on a phono stage) to produce sound. Could I damage my amphora if I plug in the TT RCA plugs directly into the amphora without a phono stage?

Kevin
