Thing is, amphora should be by all means a desktop headphone amp! And with its price tag, which worth one and a half of SOLO SRG or black cube linear or rudi nx03, almost as expensive as nx33 or m902, three times the price of xcan v8p, should this step be big enough for me rather than pick up a vcap doc+one of those amps I listed? Is there anyone compare the amphora to any of those desktop amp rivals at that level? amphora is really really a tempting choice, and I'm still waiting for the comparison promised early in this post between amphora and solo! For me, I really don't want to see NOVO and NX02 should be in the same class with amphora~~~~!!!

I consider my Amphora considerably better than the Lehmann, the Musical Videlity XCan v8 and my Pico. I also briefly listened to it as a preamp while shaving earlier today. Now keep in mind my amp (Densen B-150, costs about $9000 AUD, which I can use as a power amp) has a bloody brilliant preamp stage so when I say the Amphora sounded very good as a pre that is high praise indeed. Is it as good? Of course not, lacking the liquidity and sheer bass authority of my Densen but it still sounded great, so much so that I'm now leaving it in place as my pre since I don't get the time to listen to my speakers all that much.

Hoped this has helped.

I am really tempted to get this amp for my Grado HF-2 and my ESW10JPN.

If I can sell my Rudistor RPX-33, I will probably purchase the Amphora soon.

Is there someone here that would be willing to trade his Amphora (+ $325) against my Rudistor RPX-33 ?

Try the FS forum maybe?
Even if I doubt anyone of the few owners would part with their Amphora this soon.

It's not that I don't like my RPX-33... The portability of the Amphora would be a huge bonus for me.

The laugh wasn't at the RPX-33, it was at the idea of someone (like me) parting with their Amphora this early in the game. I think many of us use iMods and the Vcap DC blocking caps make the Amphora even more attractive. I might have been tempted were it a balanced amp.

As a new Amphora owner (iMod version), I've got to agree with Larry's assessment of what's so attractive about the Amphora, to me at any rate. With its optimized compatibility with the iMod (for sonics and convenience), its ability to run so long from such a relatively small and quickly recharged battery, AND, at the same time, to get listening so far up on the music quality curve, all at this price point - it's just an immensely attractive package of a rig. In fact, I just purchased a Pelican case for the Amphora + a few accessories to help make the transport of a rig including such a work of beauty as the Amphora as safe and secure as it can be.

Great, on my side I would use the Amphora with my Pico DAC. (I don't have the iMod and I will probably purchase the iRiver H140 to use it with my new iBasso D10)

I have one input connected to my iMod, and the other connected to my Pico DAC-only. It works great with both.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the advices. I've finally decided to order the Vcap first, and leave the upgrade options open, while using my V8p/solo.

Has anybody tried the Amphora with the Grado HF-2 or the RS-1 at Can Jam ?

The Amphora was one of the very few single ended amps that brought the HD800 to life. Check out the many threads on it.

We (Ken and I) were looking for a name that had "amp" in it, and had some vowels and was also a real word

I forgot how I stumbled on the word amphora, but when I looked it up and saw that amphoras where used to transport wine (so there is some connection to Red Wine Audio), we thought it was a fun name and unique enough to use for our headphone amp. I suppose if we put two handles on it, it would have an even stronger connection to the word

Glad to see the positive feedback on the Amphora feeding the HD800s. Thanks for all your posts!

Vinnie
