US Census Bureau, Anyone else with a job there?

I was called for Crew Leader training, Trained for three days and then told I'd be an assistant crew leader. Still a good deal. Day 5 of 5 I'm told all the Assistant Crew Leader positions are filled and I'm going back in the "pool" for future hire. I just spend 5 days in training and with Salary & Mileage I've earned a little over $1500.00. Good deal on my part, stupid on their part.

What's been your experience with the Census Bureau?

Well here it is 9 months later and I was called again last week. This time around I'm working in the Local office as a clerk. Payroll, applicant data.....etc., mostly data entry. But after 5 days I'm thinking about my career path. With this in mind I'll be taking the Supervisor test tomorrow. Anyone else working for the BOC?

I worked as a recruiter for a few weeks starting in January then as an enumerator doing quality assurance follow-up until May. I had to travel 200+ round trip miles for the recruiting training and they put me up in a motel for the four days and then about 130 miles a day for the enumerator training. I made almost as much in mileage that week as I did in salary. I just got a call that I'll probably be back to work with them in February of 2010.

So far what I've done has been pretty easy although I wasn't thrilled with the recruiting work. Too much like sales.

Wish I had your luck, took the test about a week or so ago, scored a 97 so I'm hoping I'll get some work from them.

Though their tests do have some wonky scoring between versions, which is how some others got 98s with different versions of the same exam.

Actually, just to bump this again, since this is my first time applying for census work I have to ask, is the Census Bureau supposed to call or email you if they select you for work in your area? Though it does make sense and it seems like roadcykler did get a call from them, I'm just this side of lost on that.
