AD900 + iPod

Thread Starter
Hello. Newbie here.

Just ordered me a pair of ATH AD900s and once I get it, I will be using it primarily with my ipod (nano 2g). Would it be beneficial to buy a cheap headphone amp like the e5 or PA2v2 and connect them through LOD?

Would these amps make a considerable difference to the sound?
The AD900s are described as ''easy to drive''. Does that mean I don't need an amp?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

It is my understanding, through many hours of research here, that the AD900's are low impedance cans, and do not need amplification. They will definitely benefit from amplification. I have the AD700 and a PA2V2, this does make for a better sound than straight through the mobile source. It did so well I dug the old integrated amp that my dear wife no longer wanted to see, and hooked the AD700's up to hear the difference. It was well worth the complaining I had to listen to from her. In short, yes the AD900's will definitely improve with amplification, but do not need an amp.

Amp is not 'compulsory' for AD900 but still 'nice-to-have' since the improvement is very limited comparing with some amp-dependent phones like the k701 and hd650
