NE-7M vs. Klipsch Custom 1

I have been following the threads here in regards to the NE-7M's and finally pulled the trigger and ordered a set from Amazon. Then I went to London Drugs (Canadian large retail drugstore) and lo and behold they have Klipsch Custom 1 headphones on sale for $80CAN which is almost exactly what I ended up paying for the NE-7M's after shipping and dollar conversion from the States.

So my question is for anyone who has been able to use both headsets and it's the usual type of question, which one of these two headsets is best from a purely musical standpoint?

From what I have gathered so far the NE-7M will have better bass and is supposed to have a larger soundstage. If this is so, are there any features of the Custom 1 that stand out better than the NE-7M or is the NE-7M simply a better headphone in every respect from an audio perspective?

Finally on a non-audio note, which one is more comfortable and can either be used while lying down on your side?

I know that there has been alot of discussion on the NE-7M so I apologize if I am just asking the same question that has already been answered somewhere else but I just couldn't find many comparison's between the Custom 1 and the NE-7M (I'm hoping this is simply because the NE-7M is so much better than the Custom 1 that all comparisons have been against the X10).

Anyway thanks in advance for any answers to my query.

Michael

erm well ive not heard the nuforce7 but its got to be more balanced than the kc1. i really really like the kc1 but its got a really in your face screeming mids, i love it its so much fun but its a sound you will either really like or really not. its super comfy too btw and yeah u could use it in bed whereas i dont think you can so much with the nuforce7.

as for bumping as no ones replied you prob want to wait till europe and then north america have daylight before expecting people to be up and replying

Got to agree , I love the C1s they are really enjoyable, they have faults - bass extension is not great and the balance could be more neutral but god they get more use than my C2s , Shure 210s etc.
Haven't heard the nuforce yet.

Thanks guys, this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for. The people using the NE-7M's all seem to feel that IEM is a great bass sounding and well rounded phone, so I'm thinking I made the right choice with it from your comments.

Sorry for the 1 bump there, just before I went to bed. IT's just that there is so much activity on this board I've seen threads get knocked of the front page consequently kinda buried in the past. I won't bump it again.

I have the Custom 3's, which are the same build as the Custom 1's.
They are VERY comfortable, and I could easily wear them for hours no problem.

I've listened to the Custom 1's for a short time in store but have never heard NuForce to compare.

oh feel free to bump things but its usually polite to do only once a day it was more that your times of creation and bump were v v v early morn in europe and v late at night/ then early morn us. people wouldnt have been on the site o have had a chance to reply so bumping was a tad pre-emptive

tnx for the feedback Mark.

Thanks for your comments as well Kaboom, I do like the design of the Custom series, they look like they would be extremely comfortable, but unless I see some glowing reports about the audio quality of the Custom 1's I will save my pennies and if my financial/employment situation improves will spring for a pair of C3's later this year or early next year so I can get the audio experience to match the comfort.

Ive seen the custom 1's online for $124 and the custom 2's for $125.

Is that out of the question?

I've seen the Custom 2 on sale on Amazon for that price range as well and have seen the odd review for them. I do like a bit more bass though so have held off getting them as the reviews seem to suggest while they are better than the custom 1's in most respects including bass, the bass may be still a bit more neutral than I would like. If I don't like the NE-7M coming in I may opt to get a refund and apply the difference towards a pair of the Custom 2's but they are a little better than double the cost of the NE-7M which is stretching it for me right now.

Part of my problem is that I've bought so many IEM's in the past 4 months my wife will kill me if I don't stop LOL. I really am just looking for a decent allround headset that offers solid bass and clean mids and highs. I am not a pure audiophile that is looking for a clinical sound but rather a music enthusiast who likes bass but not at the expence of the mids and highs (think Bose IE). I thought I found that with my Panasonic RP-HJE550 but the bass while not bad really only stood out at higher volumes without using an external amp and I started to notice the treble seemed to have a bit more sibilince than I would have liked. My JVC HA-FX66 on the other hand just seem muted in the midrange and again do not have the bass I am looking for and I plain do not like my JBL Reference 220's.

The perfect phones for me would be something that had about 3/4 of the bass of my BOSE in ears, the bose midrange, and the treble of maybe the JVC's (or a bit better), with the noise isolation of the JVC and Pana's, but still a somewhat nice open sound stage, not just in my head, and be able to be driven by just my Ipod Touch. I may be stretching what I can get without spending hundreds of dollars on a set of phones but the reviews of the NE-7M seemed to suggest I would be able to get most of what I'm looking for. I guess I'll know in a couple more days... Here's to hoping.

Look at it like this... you can nickel and dime yourself into spending hundreds of dollars on IEM's over the course of months/years... or... you can buy yourself a quality set like the Klipsch Custom 3's and be done with it. I have a review link in my sig with notes and pictures.

Excellent Point ka-boom, if these new phones are not what I'm looking for I will be sending them back and I'll live with what I have until I can afford something in the 2-3 hundred dollar range and the Custom 3's are going to be on that list as well as the IE 7/8's. But I am hoping they will prove to be enough of an improvement over what I'm using that I will be happy with them for the next year or so.
