Some questions about Monster/Audioquest HDMI

Hello everyone,

I have not posted in a while and I'd like to start by asking if anyone has experience with the Monster M1000 HDMI cables. I know from past experience that monster is decent but not high end, so I just took a gamble and won a new M1000 HDMI cable off ebay for $40 new. I figured it's only $40 bucks and I'm willing to take the risk if it does yield great picture. So maily is it worth the $40 I paid?

I currently own a Audioquest HDMI-3 cable and it's pretty nice all around, though I'm not sure if it was a legit cable. I bought it off ebay a month back for $60 new which sounded fishy, but I was willing to take the risk. It came with packaging and it looks just like my retail King Cobra cables, but I know fakes can look identical. Anybody know how to tell if it's a fake?

Another question is how do these two compare? I know Audioquest if high-end for sure, but some lower end cables look/sound similar.

Thanks for listening and I hope you can help.

Worth $40? No, HDMI is perfectly lossless (and the jitter argument will not cut it).

Next time just grab one off Monoprice, durable build quality and they won't screw you over.

For only $8.07 each when QTY 50+ purchased - High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors) | Premium 24AWG HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Male to Male Cables
($12 for a 8ft cable, $40 would get you a 35ft cable)

I'd rather spend a little more for build quality. I do understand what you are saying though. Most HDMI do the same thing such as any other audio/video cable does which is transmitting data. I just chose to spend a little more for peace of mind 'ya know?

I have been a very happy monoprice customer for years, their build quality and spec compliance is on par with Monster Cable, and many other high end manufacturers (though they don't look as snappy as many other cables, I like the black, professional, nondescript look).

I have no experience with their HDMI cables, but BJC has a pretty good reputation for other cable types.

Since HDMI cables are digital signal transmitters. The more over priced monster HDMI and the regular hdmi cable both transmit 0s and 1s. I don't believe monster cable can make 0s and 1s any better than well, 0s and 1s. Analog cables on the other hand is different.

Well, when it comes to digital signals, cable quality DOES matter with regards to shielding in some situations - most notably an unshielded HDMI cable will begin to show sparkly images if it goes beyond the 50 foot mark.

Of course, unless youre getting a custom installer to put HDMI through your walls and attic into a second room via a 50+ foot HDMI, however, yall are correct, a cable is a cable.
