like a process chip transform from digital file .mp3 or .aac .flac to become sounds, i used to think that in .mp3 has sounds too, no it is digital and it needs sth to make it become sounds, like digital in ur head transform it to voice through ur mouth. MP3 player, computer, CD player all has dac i think

Actually it doesn't convert from mp3 to sound signals directly. I think there is usually processing done by a cpu that converts mp3 or wma into a digital stream. This digital stream is then converted by the dac into analog.

Takes the digital 0's and 1's and makes them into an analog EM signal that the amplifier and cables can carry to your headphones or speakers.
CD palyers were one of the first DAC's. They use a laser to read a digital image of 0's or 1's and convert them into an electrical current that wires can carry to your speakers or headphones.

If you are being confused as to how you have ever heard audio without a DAC before, there is already one built into your sound card. How good it is, probably not very much.. Plugging the external DAC into the USB will just bypass the sound card's built in one.

Thanks for the link krmathis! Design Automation Conference it is. No wait, Dakota Athletic Conference looks better. Hmm... but it could also be Davies Arnold Cooper. Yeah, I'll go with that one.

^ Yeah, it could be all of them.
But since this is a highly audio dependent forum I would go for the audio related long-name.
