Rechargeables in Headroom

The makers say don't use rechargeables in Total Headroom. Is this because the lower voltage will cause clipping to happen sooner? Or is there some other subtle problem? I rather badly need to use them but am worried about causing damage. Any help from experts?

It will not damage the amp for sure. Just try it: if it works fine - use it. If the sound distorts (due to the lower voltage) - you will hear it. In that case do not use it. It will guaranteed not damage the amp.

My gut feel: it should work...

Thank you both - I shall get some rechargeables now that I'm assured they won't do actual damage. I'll let you know what happens. It seems silly to do something that runs exactly counter to the maker's recommendations, but there are special reasons in my case.
