Specifically, I wanted to know what he suggests with regards to charging the battery. Is it okay to leave the unit plugged in 24/7 if I'm using it mostly on the desktop and only occasionally on the go?
I agree. From what I understand, the L-ion battery charging circuit can safely be powered on 24/7. I've left my Pico plugged in for several weeks using it as DAC for output into a tube amp.
I have the manual and it’s really sparse and doesn’t say much. The only thing it says in regards to charging the battery (page 3, cover counted as page 1):
