A WTF Email that I received from iBasso Audio

WTF? Did my original title say headphone instead of email? Yes it did!

I'm not going to try and find the original email inquiry that I sent them, but it
was along the lines of "How do the D2 and the T4 differ sonically? How large is the jump in quality from the T4 to the D2?" etc. This is the reply I got...

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
If you only use the amp section, the T4 is better than the D2. If you want to use the USB-DAC, the D2 Boa is much better.

So apparently the amp on the T4 is better than the D2 Boa??? This is certainly news to me.

It's possible that they meant to say T4 is better than D2 economically, since you don't waste money on the feature that you don't need.

I think headphone addict or jamato said that the T4 was a step up from the Boa in the T4 thread.

You have to realize they are Chinese speaking people who don't really speak much of English in their daily life, so don't get too offended when they can't write as well as you wish them to be.

I even clarified at the end of my post that the WTF part was that the T4 has a better amp section than the Boa XD

Yes, the T4 does have a better amp section than the Boa. So why the WTF? Why does that have to be used and what is wrong with their answer? The T4 is between the Boa and the D3.

Well, I guess I never bothered to compare the two. I just assumed due to the price and size difference that the D2 Boa had a much better amp

Maybe, but the D2 Boa was released quite awhile before the T4 so I would assume they were able to make new improvements and such to the amp section. I would hope that they are continuing to improve their amps or else their product line would become stale.

I have heard the T4 briefly. But higher impedance cans like the ER-4S, they are a bit lean sounding. But they do sound very atriculate and refined. I reckon the T4 will be perfect for low impedance IEMs

I think you nailed it Ricey, it seems their amps continue to improve and provide a good value. I love my T4. I was considering the p51 mustang down the road ( for higher imp cans), but a D10 seems like such a good value, and more tweakable.

I can tell you the T4 is very nice with iems and my 50 ohm hd 595.

I don't see the problem/issue, causing you to go WTF...
The fact that the T4 is cheaper than the D2 Boa don't imply that its headphone amplifier is inferior. Some of the money saved on no-DAC, smaller case, ... could have been used on the amplifier section.

Exactly. They are telling you if you are planning to use it for just amping the headphones, the T4 is the better selection. If you are going to mainly use it as a USB DAC(basically like a sound card) then the D2 would be the better choice.

IBasso could've just said - go ahead and buy from us a more expensive product. Nice one from iBasso!

Unless... the profit margin on the T4 is higher lol
