Absolutely! Vegetarian renders the sound thin, reedy and incoherent whereas meat adds to the bottom end.

If you're still looking for an answer. I can attest to the improvement stands make to the sound of the Audioengine A5's. I was initially disappointed with these speakers while placed on my desk, and later, on top of books. That all changed when I got proper stands and decoupling pads. I'm usually hesitant in describing sound differences like this as they may seem like exaggerations, but I can quite honestly say, the difference in sound quality with the stands was dramatic. I detected notable improvements in imaging, soundstage and especially bass definition and accuracy (all the odd resonance-induced bass humps disappeared).

Also, remember to keep the A5's away from walls. Atleast 6 inches, although I've found improvements by extending this figure to about 12.

a buddy of mine uses the half tennis ball looking upside down things (I think they are speaker or component stands or something) in the fronts to cant the speakers slightly upward....seems to enhance sound all around
