is the ATH-A900 the best for movies/games - Page 2

Comfort, people, comfort. That is just as import as sound quality in movie cans. The DT770's are a hella lot more comfortable then 780's. After about an hr of use, my outer ears hurt because of the shallow and small earpads, and sweated excessively. And the DT770/pro's do just fine unamped.

Comfort for me is the same with my PRO series really. But you have to wear them in a bit more . I wonder why people find them hurting the ears... I mean I got huge wrestling ears and it does work fine for me.

Then you have a high pain tolerance, lol. The fact remains, the 780's have small, shallow earcups, and fake leather earpads. The 770's have large, deep earcups with velor earpads. Let those points speak for themselves.

Has anyone considered the DT250 / AKG K271 for this purpose?

Being that I was only able to find the DT770/250 version for a decent price and there seems to be a lot of reviews saying you can use the 80's without an amp but it likes to have one but the 250 must be amped.

for the reviews on the 780's most agree an amp is definitely not needed, and i found them for 170 with free shipping so i pulled the trigger on those... if they are not comfortable for me i will probably be back looking for amp advice on the DT770

I was unable to stop the shipment for the Senn HD280's i bought a few days ago so it will be interesting to see the difference before i return them.

thanks for all the help.

Nice buy Oh! I find that the 780 comfort does get alot better after a few weeks of use. The headband will stretch a little and pads soften up a touch. If you stick it out im sure they will be a great pair of cans for you

When I bought the Pro 750, I couldn't use them for even 10 minutes even if I wanted too...The clamp force was just too much and the ear pads were way too small...I did use the darth beyers (dt 770 modded), and dt 770/250...These eat the ultrasone when it comes to comfort...

For gaming and movies, I think comfort is a pretty important factor. If you experience too much pain, how can you concentrate on the battlefield or pay attention to the story in the movie? I am not saying the the ultrasones headphones are uncomfortable for everyone but...a large number of people had similar problem. Its either a hit or miss when it comes to comfort...That's my 2 cents...

There are new Ultrasones coming out though. Perhaps they redesigned the pads? I have 2500s atm. The 750 would be the best sound for around $200 or less. The 770 has the best comfort for a closed with serious slam for around $100. Or a Darth Beyer I saw a V3 for $325 here recently.

just arrived!

I just got my new 780's today and i have to say i do not find them uncomfortable at all... but i have been using senn hd280's over the weekend while i was waiting. I don't think the HD280's are uncomfortable exactly but they are like wearing a vice...

i am still new at this and have only the 280's and a 5.1 Triton 360's to compare to but i find the 780's much more comfortable the either of these and of course it is noticeably much better in sound quality

thanks for all the great advice, I love these. now i need to get a new sound card because my onboard audio device is not worthy of these.

I was thinking the EMU 0404 so i can use it with my wife's laptop also... anyone know something cheaper, external and is still good quality?

my PRoline 750s was just as comfortable as the DT 770 PROs. PRO 900 even comfier. It´s the same clamping force and isolation pretty much.
