Sony Ericcson Walkman series better than ordinary Sony Ericsson phones?

This is quite irrelevant but I'm curious.
There's Sony Ericsson phones that are also branded by Walkman and there's other series that aren't (although they're usualy Cybershot and have way better camera). Do Walkman series phones have better SQ than the one of non-Walkman series? I use my W910i for portable music listening, I don't have any problems, sound quality isn't great but fair enough, I don't think it's reasonable to spend £150 on iPod or any MP3/MP4 anyway as you can get phones with more than enough capacity for my needs but ofc, that's me.

Just if someone doesn't want to read: Is there any SQ difference between Sony Ericsson Walkman series phones and non-Walkman Sony Ericcson phones?

While I haven't had experience with the sound quality of non-walkman sony ericsson phones, I can say that my w580i's sound quality is not very impressive to me. It doesn't come anywhere near my fuze in terms of sound quality. Also, the proprietary headphone connector is a big turn off as far as me using the phone as a music player goes.

Yeah, I know, that fuse wrecks my head. I guess you could so modding but I'm not up for it as I don't care. But I was just wondering, no interest but curiosity.

I have a Sony E. K810i. Ever since my A818 was stolen I've been using it as my mp3 payer. With modified drivers i get close to the same sound. Obviously not the same as my A818 but it suffices.

My friend got K800 cellphone, I got A728, there is huge difference of SQ, K800 sounds like crap compared my A728. Muddy, and lack of detail, and background music just blurred and mixed up. Already tried to tweak around K800 EQ, still no help.

Ditto. My E005 was leaps and bounds better than my k750i. Dunno if the phones are better these days though.

It's quite obvious that a good MP3 player will sound better than a phone because MP3 players were made only for listening music, as oppose to phones doing anything.

hm. not sure how good a comparison with the k series phones would be though.

I remember reading the k750 phones could be flashed to w800, and one of the interesting results was better sound quality. So there was something in the firmware that affected the sound. I'd definitely ask silverknit3 about the firmwares for those with the k series phones.

I personally use a w890, but have not heard any of the non-phone walkmans, nor have I heard any phones from the k series.

do you mean is there any difference between walkman branded and the non walkman versions of the same phone?

well, I had the W850i and the W800, both sounded crap.

All the high end phones from sony, nokia , and samsung sound pretty good. But a dedicated dap still sounds better in 99% of the cases. I have a SE w890i and it sounds great, but still doesn't compare to my s639-touch-clip ect.ect. My previous w800i sounded good, but hissed major. I'm not a fan of motorola.

SE phones are overpriced imo- especially high end ones, I just got my model because I like a small candy-bar style phone. Nokia and especially samsung are better values. If you go to the site gsmarena.com they actually rmma test cell phones, plus just a great site if your looking to buy a new cell. Or even get more confused LOL.

How about the new W980, seems like a true DAP+Phone according to the description.

I'm still using the standard firmware for the k810i. My phone was imported from China so I flashed it to US firmware for my convenience. If you truly want better sound, get into learning to change drivers on SE-NSE and I highyl recommend the XDS drivers. I found those to be closest to what my A818 could produce. Falls slightly short with some vocal static (sounds like the high end gets crumpled by paper at times) but other than that, It's perfectly fine as an mp3 player.

I had a K550i that I flashed to a W610i and the sound quality was the same before and after. The W610i had a better music player interface and MegaBass but that was about it. Camera quality was the same before and after, too. The various Sony Ericssons I've had (W810i, W710i, K550i, TM506) have all been decent music players but not what I'd call particularly high quality. They are about as good as it gets for a mobile phone that doubles as a music player even with the clumsy FastPort adapters that are necessary.

i had W800i ..the very first of walkman series..it was my portable player for over a year before i got a iPod 5.5G on my birthday..since then i never used it much for music.

the amp on W800i was very weak..it could hardly power my 32 ohm HD205's.

and the sound quality was decent not anything like even ampless ipod.

now lot of new models have come out..including the latest W980i which i had my eyes on before i went for Xperia...

SE says the W980i has really good sound quality...has anyone heard it here?
