Favourite U2 album

Go! To make things interesting, you may rank them in order of preference. Also, do tell us why you liked the album you do.

The poll has 2 albums missing:
1. Pop
2. No Line in the Horizon

Pop was omitted because...well, few people liked it. NLH was omitted because I'm not sure how many people have heard it. There were only 10 slots available, see. Those of you who put either of these in the top spot will just have to post, rather than vote.

Definitely Joshua Tree

Had to go with Boy. I think it has the most energy.

That's a tough one for anyone who's a serious fan. For me it was between The Unforgettable Fire and Achtung Baby, and I ended up giving the nod to Fire after thinking about it for a minute.

have to throw the nod to joshua tree. I feel more soul in that album then their others. Achtung baby probably rocks more, but I connect much more to the heart of joshua tree. probably my age. lol

Don't like U2, but Achtung Baby is probably the most tolerable.

There's one in every crowd.

then maybe you shouldn't stain the thread with your superior musical intellect? Go start a kenny g thread.

thanks though, my ignore list was being neglected.

Mainly for "sentimental" reasons, that has to be "Joshua Tree", which was my first contact with U2.

I have been a huge fan since I was 12, which was approx. the time of JT/Rattle and Hum. I have seen every Tour since then except Pop (actually had a falling out with the band over this period, although ironically I really enjoy that album today) and Vertigo (deployed, and sadly Baghdad was not on the itinerary). U2 is an enigma, and I can see why some dislike them, but for me Bono's voice is about as comforting a sound as I have found in this world. I love their new album, but I genuinely love them all. For the sake of the poll I picked Achtung only because it was released at my peak of fandom (and I saw Zoo TV 5 times), but on any given day I would probably give you a different answer. I don't agree with everything they do, and yes I miss some of their overwrought sincerity of the 80s, but I do believe they have done what they did to stay relevant and for that I am thankful.

Edit: Fact: No other band has stayed as popular while releasing relevant music with the same EXACT lineup.

Forgot to say my wife told me a couple of days ago that she will buy me tickets for U2's show in Barcelona next 30th June, which is the first gig on their tour. Now I only have to be very lucky to get the tickets...

-Achtung Baby-
It's the one that you can always come back to without disappointment;

Most other U2 albums are pretty damn good!

I also think No Line on the Horizon has got some very addictive and catchy tunes. Most recommended album (if you are having doubts)!

Even a non-so commercially successful Pop has got masterpieces - a great listen for the right mood.

Happy U2 listening!

LOL. That was HELLA bitchy. Congrats!

I'm going with Joshua Tree myself.

By the way, there is another project omitted from the voting poll:
Passengers: Original Soundtracks 1

It's not classified as U2-only studio album... its U2 and Brian Eno

A lot of experimenting with instruments, computers, sound effects, music boxes, voice etc! Once again - not a bad listen for a right mood!

Joshua Tree because it was life changing when that album came out for me.

However, No Line on the Horizon is a pretty damn good potential successor to it.
