Ah I see. I wasn't aware of the maxxed PDPS.

Consensus is that we want to spend your money on the maxxed WA 6 for an "I live long time" amp.

Now, get us out of your wallet and make your decision on how interested are you in this hobby. If you spend as much time listening to hps as many of us, this is a no brainer from a performance standpoint. Will you be able to get what you want without saving/selling/stealing some more? This is where patience vs compromising becomes an issue.

I've been waiting for over a year for a new source. I'll be waiting for another the way this year is going. I don't want to buy one for a credit card company just to have one now for what I can afford.

Damned place!

I think the opposite in fact. If you get the WA6 with PDPS now, you can upgrade over time. It may be that as time goes by Jack find newer parts or mods that will make a difference and you can take advantage of them. A case in point is the changes to the circuit to stop the Princess sparking at power up. That is now included in all new amps.

You may find that in a year the premium parts upgrade includes different things that Jack finds make more an improvement, so waiting a bit might be in your favour, and you may find that the WA6 gives you all your need anyway.

The Princess 'upgrade' can of course be done at any time, and that does make an audible difference.

I recommend to get a WA6 with PDPS only and get blackcaps and princess upgrade in the future.

Hey... Whatever...

Hey... "whatever"...

... either way, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you've got one of the best available, that is as beautiful to look at, inside and out, as it is to listen to!!!

While the WA6 SE has a bit more power... I suspect the WA6 Maxied w PDPS, sounds pretty close to the WA 6E.

And... you can' always... "trade up," later on... if you can't resist the temptation.

Upgrading at additional shipping costs and a chance of more costs by loss or shipping damage. As far as improvements in parts, do they really improve over a year? A design perhaps, and that should be covered by the maker if it is defective.

Gradofan,
You have the maxxed se, what made you decide to get it as apposed to the lesser unit? I don't mean this to be accusatory or argumentative. Just another view the OP can take into account with his decision.

I like my WA6 w/ PDPS. I don't have the princess tube yet, I can get one later. I didn't get the maxxed parts either, again can upgrade later. What I did get was another set of cans. The WA6 w/ PDPS is a great amp, as others have said. The WA6 SE is a better amp. But the Zana Duex is an even better amp. Got to stop somewhere.

I don't really know... other than some reports that said it was as good, or better than, the ZD, and SPs.

I guess I was swayed by the added power, the hi Z and lo Z jacks on the front panel, and the source switch on the back panel. And... perhaps the fact that the price of the 6SE was about the same as the maxed 6... and... then I "just punted" to add the upgrades.

Pretty sick... I know!

HeadphoneAddict and Blutarsky couldn't tell the difference between a Zana and a maxed Woo WA6 the last time I read the mini-meet thread.

And we will have a 6 w/PDPS and a ZD to try side by side next weekend. It will be great to hear these great amps.

However, HeadphoneAddict's was using RCA 6DE7s and a Sophia Princess rectifier... so the Woo WA6 w/ just the PDPS probably isn't an even match for the Zana.

Perhaps you were told something different than I, but when i've talked to Jack about his amps and upgrades he was not keen on doing them at a later date due to the substantial cost [parts + additonal labor + shipping]. While he will indeed do it, its simply far more cost effective to just request upgrades during the initial purchase.

Doesnt make much sense to me either to pay $600-$700 at a later date what would of cost you $400 when you bought the amp, especially with the amp only having cost $600 to begin with.
