With Grados, the pads make so big a difference, it's almost unfair to compare two Grados with different pads
I have always been interested in the bowls' effect on bass, because the driver is further away from the ear (which should reduce bass) but at the same time has a tougher material to help form an 'air cone' (which should add bass).
