Lavry DA11 - Page 2

I spent a bit of time with Dan at Canjam - really nice guy, btw.

The DA11 is very good, high detail and resolution, nice tone, really nothing to criticise.

Only regret was we were listening from the internal headamp only - I would have liked to have heard it through an external headamp and more phones.

It was perhaps a little smoother than the Benchmark, but there's not a huge amount in it. You won't be disappointed with either one; they're both high quality sources and I guess final decision should be between synergy with the rest of your system and desired features.

Thanks for your impressions. I definitely agree with qualifying the Lavry DA11 sound as smooth (or should we just say music is flowing effortlessly), while highly detailed and retaining excellent resolution and tonal accuracy.

What headphones did you listen to from the internal amp ?

It is said to do a fantastic job with low impedance cans, while still very decent with higher impedance cans...

How does it compare to DA10?

I too spent some time at the Lavry table with Dan and his wife. My limited experience tells me that the DA11 is better then the DA10. Dan would not give me any specifics, but just said that's it's an improved version, with the addition of USB, remote control option, and crossfeed like circuit. Although I only listened through headphones, I have to agree it does seem like an across the board improvement.

I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on the crossfeed/image-adjustment compared to other companies implementations. I've tried a couple -- Foobar plug-in, the one from Headroom, and did not like either. I left them off after trying them for a while.

I'm not a fan of crossfeed, but the Lavry version was as good or better then any other I've tried. If I remember correctly their version offers 3 setting to narrow the image, and 2 setting to widen. It gives you a lot of control depending on your source and the headphone you're using.

I think I was listening through some AKGs - can't remember which! The PIC thing was demonstrated and I played around with it a bit and would say there's a subtle adjustment to perceived headstage. I could live without it, but could imagine it's a nice tweak depending on your headphones to get the presentation you like.

Little late, I know but never the less finished.
