Classical Violin Concertos - Page 4

I did a search at BMG music (not YourMusic) for Julia Fischer and got a little notice that one of her albums was about to released on the site; and would I like a notice when it's available. With BMG on board, YourMusic is sure to follow. I'll bet that it's her first DG album: Bach Violin Concertos.

It's worth the purchase price simply for the last note he plays out of the cadenza into the final movement...BRILLIANT!! I don't think you even have to be a cellist to revel in the sound he gets in that one, individual note...
I have a his (and Lars Vogt's) recording of the cello sonatas by Prokofiev and Shostakovich with Stravinsky's Suite Italienne. It's also wonderful. I'm putting that Shosty cello concerto recording on my short list.

The Suwanai and J. Fischer Bach CDs arrived this week. I'll listen this weekend and post my impressions.

Just bought this one. Very nice. The only problem is just at the end of the solo in Tchaikovski's concerto you can hear traffic noise! AM I right? I believe so.

Thank you, Bunnnyears.
Kujiken's Sonatas & Partitas (1990 version) is one of my favorite.
I'll definitely give this new album a try!!

Just discovered this thread, a few passing thoughts:

- Hahn is my favorite living violinist. She's gotten me to listen to music by composers that wouldn't've otherwise interest me (Bach, Brahms, Mozart)...and with interest.
- Heifetz is easily my favorite of all time.
- I love SACD's, so of course listen to a lot of Hahn, Fischer, and Podger (another one who has gotten me to listen to more Mozart than I ever thought I would, due to her sonata collection with Gary Cooper)
- Bell is another one whose works I enjoy a lot, slowly accumulating everything he has put out.
- Favorite concertos of all time include the Mendelssohn/Bruch that are usually paired together (there's sometimes a third one that's paired with one or the other, but I forget which) and, of course, Tchaikovsky.
- Slowly discovering the value of Sibelius, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Khachaturian as well.
- So will follow this thread with interest, but am sorry to say I have nothing more learned to add.

You won't be disappointed! I think I have all of Mork's recordings to date. However, there was rumor that he'd recorded the Kodaly solo cello sonata but I've never found a listing for it. Enjoy!

since it is the right time of the year, let me put a plug in for a good "beach CD" from the inventor of violin concertos, and two of the most gifted violinist around today

this is no Schoenberg (which BTW I also struggled to appreciate...), just simple beautiful music harmoniously played, and very well recorded.
