well, since you brought it up.

If you're asking me, from what I understand, Headamp.com is charging around $1400. Mine was a little less because he wanted a "display model" to take pictures of to post on his site, so I agreed to pay right now (at that time) so that he could buy the parts, which are expensive, all in all, to build that first "display model."

I had previously asked zzz and was not impressed with the price he wanted. I think it was (a few hundred higher), but don't quote me on that.

a little piece of history to refresh your memory. not that it's relevant right now and what-not (I never really got into that diyfse thing, just a couple of one-offs in exceptional situations -- kgss is hardly worth the time for me to build, and especially not at what I quoted you eight and a half months ago). I just don't like it when somebody tries to explain his decisions by lying about something I said or did.

Hi.

Gee, I was under the impression from Gilmore's headwize page on it that the parts would amount to around $300 - $350. Is that not correct? Or do you charge high for labor?

Thanks.

Hello Matt,

Sure, yeah. I'll need to figure out how much it would cost me to build one, but the price for the finished amp is likely to be around a grand for a single-ended one input version. Balanced or multi-input is a little more because of the price of additional controls'n'stuff.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Hi.

I would like to have a KGSS built for some Stax SR-404's and from what I understand, you do some DIYFSE work, like eric343 and JMT. Are you interested?

Regards,
Matt

...wow, I watched that Weebl webtoon and I utterly fail to see the connection, but to each his own, no?

Is there some sort of "official" name, like how about just "Blue Hawaii"? That sound much more appealing...perhaps slightly less memorable, though...

Matt

I paid, I believe, in early May, so there has been another 3+ months wait and I am still waiting to see the final product. You might think I'm pissed because of all the waiting, but I'm not, as we had an understood agreement each step of the way. Plus, in the end, I'm getting the really great product I've lusted so long for.

So, don't feel so bad about your 4 - 6 weeks. You'll manage.

Matt,

Oh my!

It has been a long wait for you isn't it?
Haivng faith often pays off, tho.

It's nice to know Justin kept his words and came through for you. Mine won't be a one-off like yours ( basically the same as ref. version with no volume pot and a single input/output ), so I am hoping it'll get done in a quoted time.

I don't see any connection between the webtoon and the amp, either...

Officially I guess it would be the KGSS/Blue Hawaii, or KGBH. That's what it often goes by on IRC, at least.

heh, you deluded kid. you're the only one who insists on using that ugly name and similarly ugly acronym.

`blue hawaii` to me smells of something old and boring while `kgss/blue hawaii` would feel right at home at a morgue. in retrospect, I kinda regret introducing kgss acronym at all, because it spawned a bunch of still-borns like kgca and kgbh, and it confused the hell out of many people who thought kgss was a dynamic amp and referred to the latter like that.

in any case, kg refused to name his amps when kelly asked him to do that (remember, `blue hawaii` is only what he decided to call the output stage), so the name `bob` was proposed and was taken rather well for that amp. however, when I finished building it, it was clearly much bigger than bob could ever be [see http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/ if that went over your head], so it had to become `weebl`.

I tend to refer to it as just `hybrid` these days anyway.

Jeez, you IRC guys have become rather unfriendly since I haven't shown my head there in a while...
rolleyes.gif

And not just unfriendly - uninformed, too. It was Teucer that started calling it the KGBH, I picked it up as something that I thought worked well. (and I still do, despite the fact that it fails to meet your standards of liveliness

)

(and yeah, it's kind of a shame that Kevin hasn't come up with official names for the amps, as his designators of "electrostatic mk. 1,2,3 etc. are rather confusing unless you're him)

heh. as I said, you're the only one who still insists on using that acronym. teucer hasn't been with us in a long long time.

anyway, neither you nor him's got a voice on this matter till you actually build one

Hey, he was working on a layout for it but seems to have disappeared...

...which is unfortunate, because it means I have to learn Protel.
rolleyes.gif

(before you tell me to do it your way, I'll say right off the bat that I really like to have a schematic capture to verify that any mistakes are in the more-easily-verifiable schematic than in the PCB)

And yes, it's my next project... once I can get the money together. Well, I've got two full boards (2ch + p/s) left, now all I need is the time and I'm in business

Actually, I'm back now - was in Germany for 4 months without a computer that could run protel.

Makes no difference to me what people call it - weebl, kgbh, kgt2, hybrid, etc. It's convenient to have a short acronym when corresponding about it though.

Work on the layout should resume soon, but finishing my kgss is first in the queue.

Hi! I was told that on the KGSS power supply that you had designed a PCB for, there was a slight flaw. With that discovered, my builder gave me the better Blue Hawaii universal PS, rather than wait. I suppose I ought to thank you for that, in a way...

Matt

The flaw was not in Teucer's board but in Kevin Gilmore's design, as he had designed it with an older version of the 2SA1967 transistor that could handle much much more power.
