M-Audio AV40 vs. Audioengine 2 vs. 5

I currently have a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speaker set. It seems broken to me because the right channel would crackle ever so slightly during loud audio playbacks.

I've searched the forum to the best of my ability and I can't find a thread that compares the AV40, A2, A5. I'm sorry if there was one before but I want to hear the opinion from the experts here.

TIA

Most of my files are flac & m4a, but of course i have mp3s too. I've really set my mind on either one of the 3 speakers i posted above, but I'm still unsure which one to go with.

i only have/heard the A5... i love them!

A2s + a sub are still less than the A5s. The M-Audios are ok but need a sub too.

Best budget deal is the Swan M12

I have the AV40's. Quite happy with them. Before, I was using Harmon/Kardon 2.1 Champagne series computer speakers that came with a Dell desktop. I was hesitant about not having a sub with the M-Audios, since I loved bass, but I can say that it sounds better with these monitors. And they can go LOUD.

Looks like I'm going with the A5. The only thing now is to find the cheapest A5 sold in Canada.

It's unfortunate that Swan Speakers (HiVi) doesn't do a better job with their sales and service channels in the US, but I would think the latest Swan M200 MkIII would sound better than anything Audioengine or M-Audio produces in the same price range.

I'm not sure why Newegg stopped selling Swan's hi-end multimedia speakers. In China, the Swan M200 MkIII can be purchased for about USD $250.

Here's a couple pics of the new Swan M200 MkIII winning the award for best design and engineering award at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

You can go to their Chinese website and just see how much detail they put into these fine speakers - Swans M200 MkIII (now at their 3rd version).

The Audioengine speakers sure looks similiar to the Swan (Hivi) D1080 MkII speakers in the last picture. Who knows, maybe Swan (HiVi) is the original manufacturer for Audioengine.

Err well they're both square-ish I guess.

I picked up the AV40s for my little brother. I'm still impressed every time I hear them at how good they sound for their size and price.

BTW, they pair well with the Audiophile USB.
