Me and my Grado SR60.

I actually didn't "own" a pair of SR-60's until very recently and thus didn't realize what a terrific value they really are (although I'm giving these as a gift, so they'll be gone in a couple months). First off, they have a much better sound than the iGrado, likely because the pads are more acoustically transparent and the driver placement is better. Secondly, these are just ridiculously comfortable. I really wish you could get the bowl sound with something this comfortable, because it's really quite amazing how soft the comfy pads are... I can wear them forever.

I'm interested to compare further in the future the differences between the SR-60's and SR-60i's. I compared them briefly and noted that there's definitely a difference, but it's not fundamental, just a slight shift in the treble. Both have the same fit, cable, and everything else, though, so I'll continue to recommend both equally.

LOL. Nice gift [opens box] "let me just make sure these babies work first..." [2 months later...] "Yeah I'm sorry I didn't get you anything..."

I agree that the comfy pads are more comfortable than the bowl pads, but only for a little while. Once you start wearing them for marathon sessions over 3 or 4 hours they tend not to be be so comfortable anymore.

Don't forget that the headphones headband should be bent outwards if you're planning on using these indoors so that there's less pressure on your ears. Personally, I think the flats are horrendously uncomfortable, but I have my HF-1's headband stretched out so much that there's barely any clamping force and I can wear them for hours without noticing anything but the light contact required to keep them on my head. My friend gave me huge compliments on this. He said, "Your headphones are amazing. Every other big headphone I've ever used clamps down on my ears and are extremely uncomfortable, but yours just sit on your head so I can just wear them for hours."

How would these sound with movies? I would just plug into my receiver's headphone jack. Thanks.

Jim,

They would actually sounds just fine. The beauty of Grados is that they're relatively low impedance, so you can pretty much plug them into anything and they'll sound fine. I would, however, recommend that if you get the SR-60i's that you get the Grado 15' extension cable to go with them because the headphones' cord is likely too short to reach from the receiver to your couch.

Ah that's probably the key. I've stretched mine out pretty far, but I'm always afraid I'll break them if I go any further. I probably have nothing to worry about.

Yep absolutely agree about the cord being a bit short. Odd that... its really too long to be comfortably portable, but too short to lay in bed and listen to music with from across the room.

I gotta disagree a bit about movie watching though, and maybe it just depends on the movies one is watching, but I think the SR60s royally suck with anything with big bangs, whether that be action, sci-fi, and/or especially war films. Guns make a pop sound and huge explosions almost make no sound at all.

The 60's are a terrific value and I've been very pleased with mine. For use with the iPod (stationary, non-walking around, indoors), they're hard to beat and pretty much impossible to beat at the price.
