Grado SR60i - can't stop grinning!!

This is unreal. Sorry, but it's completely unreal.

I've owned so many expensive headphones over the past few years, different amplifiers...

I've just plugged my new Grado SR60i into the front of my cheap compact PC, fired up some Guns N Roses (November Rain specifically, my personal 320kbit CBR MP3 version)... and I can't stop grinning.

Best £69.95 I ever spent, period.

I was considering getting an amp earlier on, even if a cheap CMOY clone of the RA-1, but I honestly don't think I'll bother, I'm that happy out of the box!

Maybe it's the financial aspect - I've always felt slightly (at the back of my mind, but I could drown it out with music!) that I was spending too much on headphones, even though I know many of you spend far more... but seriously, £69.95?!!

I think I'm a Grado convert for life now

I'll probably write a proper review when I've stopped head-banging and foot stamping

[EDIT]
I just noticed, when leaving feedback, that the seller has just upped their price to £79.99 - Glad I snapped them up when I did, they seemed too cheap

Congrats for that. I bet you are one of the guys who like grado sound, don't you?

STAY AWAY FROM THIS FORUMS, though. You will be tempted in no time to buy some rs1i, gs1000i or even ps1000

Nah, I've had the SR325i before. Although I liked them, I kept the K701 over them... then got an HD650... still kept the K701 and sold the HD650... then got ANOTHER set of 325i... kept the K701 again...

I honestly reckon that if anything, I'd get another set of SR60i's in case of emergencies. I'm finding them a great little can, and I'm not compelled to spend any more money than this now. Like I said, I was considering a *cheap* CMOY (like £25 delivered) and I'm not even going to bother with that now.

Don't know why people think the new design is ugly, I think it's great

Enjoy! I started off with the SR80s which blew me away with their grit, realism and presence. Try listening to some Unplugged albums- Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in New York sounds absolutely fantastic with Grados.

EDIT: Also, 325is are a different flavour from the mainline Grado sound. I happen to prefer it, but many don't. Also, the 60s/80s improved the least from amping of any headphones I've owned, they're that easy to power. Once again, enjoy!

Problem is, the only way to stop headbanging and footstomping is to get those Grados off your head

Congratulations on the purchase!
Had you bought the SR225 instead of the SR325i in the first place, your life might have been different.. You could be dating one of the Olsen twins now.. Yeah, Grados are THAT great

yeah, same happened to me, i see you an future RS-1/PS1000 owner
i warned you

sorry to hijack this thread abit. can T4 drive the grados sr60i further?
amping the sr60/80 is pretty much of an over kill. I wouldnt use an amp for them since they can be perfectly driven using a standard headphone jack. Then again some daps have stronger amps like the cowon d2 versus ipod. But I've run my sr80 through the headphone jack with marginal differences with and without amp. using an LOD is a bit different

Hey man. Good to hear! The Grado-ness is alive and well in my SR60's and I don't see myself looking to upgrade to a higher priced Grado.

If I have started with RS1 rather than 701, I might not have ended up getting amp, DAC, cables and more phones.....

Wow, this is pretty rare isn't it? A head-fier who has gone through quite a lot of higher-end phones and realised that basics can be the best

not terribly rare, actually. I've seen a few threads about people who started with the SR60 or SR80, went through the head-fi journey, then realized they were perfectly content with their SR80's and sold off everything. Then there's the guy who has sold off almost all of his gear because of how much he likes his JVC HAR-X700's.

I'd agree. I think the only reasons to amp SR60's are:

1) You want to use the LOD and need something to control the volume.

2) You want a colored amp to add some bass.

That's why I think the FiiO E5 is a good amp with them. Not because they really benefit from the E5's additional power, but because of the E5's bass boost circuit and it enables you to use an LOD.

If I have not been stingy and got the RS1, it sounds probably be sufficent (at that time) and don't need me to get amp, DAC etc. It isn't the best, sure, but it is decent and doesn't need amp.

But on the other hand I might still have upgrade something or others lol.....

I'm also very tempted to go for a pair of grado's. And for their price you can't really go wrong I would say.
If only they were as cheap overhere, as they are in the US ! Cheapest I have found in the netherlands is 96 euros. Double of what they cost in the us! :@
