Finally Got a Clip

What's up Head-Fi, I've been reading and lurking these forums for quite a while now. Well I finally got a Clip after hearing everyone's opinions on it and I'm liking it a lot. Anyway, I got a few questions.

1. I'm just starting in the audiophile world so I don't really have a lot to spend right now. So I just bought some Creative EP-630's for my Clip. Are these good-decent phones?

2. What's a good format to use for the Clip? I use FLAC but is there really a difference between FLAC and maybe 320 kbps MP3? I've read that the difference is only noticeable with the higher class headphones.

3. I got a pair of HD555s and sometimes I use them because I like the feel of cans instead of IEMs/earbuds. It's not as loud as when I use IEMs/earbuds. I have to put the volume on 75-80% to get what I get with IEMs. Anyone use full cans with their Clip and do you use an amp?

Welcome to Head-Fi.

I just recently bought 2 Clips since they were only $50 for the 8GB at Wal-Mart. I like it a lot and usually amp it with the iBasso T4 portable amp. I use one in my truck plugged into an Eclipse HU.

I've never owned the EP-630 or HD 555. I use high bit rate mp3 (LAME V0, ~245 VBR) with all of my DAPs. I often don't hear a difference between FLAC & mp3, especially on an inexpensive player.

I have plugged my HD 650 straight into my Clip at full volume...not bad actually for a $300 HP and a $50 player.

I'm sure that there are several full size cans that could sound fine straight from the Clip like Grados (haven't tried my 325i yet)...but I prefer to amp most of my DAPs even for IEMs.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna switch to high quality MP3. I need more room for music.

You guys are lucky, there's no 8GB Clip at all where I live. Canada. I had to settle for a silver 4GB Clip that was on sale for $50. It sucks here.

I love my clip. Its a perfect pocket rig for work.

Hi welcome to headfi

Congrats on your clip. I also use FLAC on my clip, but its more of a convenience factor on my part since I regularly change the music on my clip. My files are stored in flac so I just click and drag and don't convert anymore. If the clip is the only DAP you have right now, then maximize the storage and just use Mp3s, 192 VBR is already very good for most non-critical listening purposes.

I also usually use the clip with an amp. If you want to use full cans, adjust the volume setting on the clip and use high gain

After using the clip for a few days then going back to my D2, I think I prefer the sound of the clip now. I wish the Fuze had a normal SDHC slot so I can use my 32gb card

EP-630 are pretty good for the price. It has followed me for 2 years and still doing well.

It should be on sale still. I bought mine for $49 at walmart last week (actually bought 2, too good to pass up).

It's interesting that you say that Ricey. I found the same thing when I bought my clip. I bought a 1gb clip out of curiosity about three weeks ago and somehow just like its sound better than my D2. It's just sad that it's only 1gb and the 4gb ones are hugely expensive here (over 120aud) and 8gb isn't even around as far as I can tell.

Hey great dane where did you buy that fat interconnect? I'm looking for some all black cables. I'm looking to get that same setup and try it out against my touch-IE8 setup. And yes the clip sounds marvelous! I also bought 2 8 gig at walmart

Oh, and jokez welcome!, an amp would help those 555 out quite a bit. Even a little fiio would help. Ibasso t4 (pictured above) looks like a winner for only 109.00. I also don't notice a difference between 320 and flac.

Yep, I was so not expecting it to sound better than the D2. Really considering a Fuze now to replace the D2 lol. Too bad its expensive or not available in aus. Maybe you can try to buy a used one here on the forums.

Mister mad scientist EFN cooked it up in his mod lab.

I need to check out that wal-mart sale. I got my brother a 2GB one for his birthday for $40. But I can return that and just get this one, instead.
