Yaqin 6J1 Tube Buffer - Page 3

He finally caved in and agreed to sell me his last CBC4! I can't wait to try it out. I'll try it between the CD and amp and between the ipod universal dock and amp. I can also use it between the AKGs and the Shanling. The Exposure CD player is quite analogue sounding anyway so maybe I'll be able to tell the difference most with the ipod. Not sure how people use it in the tape loop, You just plug it in between tape out and tape in? and then it influences all the sources? Well at least its something to play with and I get to see tube lights on my set up. Decided to get a Regar Planar record deck as well seen as they seem to get good reviews on here. Then I'm not buying anything for 6 months or I think it could be divorce proceedings.
Thanks for the advice anyway Godkin. The Core Audio aesthetically (sic?) will suit my system best that's all black boxes. Really looking forward to getting this.

This is it, but you also need some sort of tape monitor function, so you can route an input to the tape out, then through the buffer, back to the tape in, and finally to the amplifier and speakers/headphones... You can also have it between the pre and power amplifier... And yes, this way you can use it with all your sources !

Now, I've tried the Shuguang 6J1 and Raytheon JRP-6AK5 with the Grant Fidelity tube buffer. To make it short, it seems to me that the 6J1 is higher fidelity, but I prefer the Raytheon. The 6J1 is transparent. It brings almost nothing, good or bad. The Raytheon is sweeter, less dynamic probably. Or, maybe more of those even harmonics, who knows... but I like it better !

I've recently bought one, did some modding and such... I'm using it with russian 6j1p-ev tubes. When wired to my power amp, it really works well, but when i use it with my headphones, i can't really hear a difference, guess that's the limit of my hd555s. Well, next project: better headphones

I hate to bump an old thread, but I picked one of these up recently and have had a chance to play with it for a bit. I've not used it with the stock 6J1 tubes yet, but I'm really enjoying the ever so slightly expanded soundstage and touch of added warmth that appears on some musical selections with the cv4010 tubes that I've got running in it now. Anyone else have any tube suggestions for it? Is it worth giving the 6J1s a shot?

The cv4010s seem to bring a subtle bit of extra life to guitar rock and don't seem to have much if any impact on jazz or more modern rock. I've got it in my recording loop currently for quick A/B capabilities. It's been an interesting impulse buy so far, having never owned any tube equipment before. Hopefully they'll sound a bit better after they've got more than a few hours on them. Vocals on some (but not all) tracks sound a bit flat, and it definitely sacrifices a bit of high-frequency presence as it currently sits.

Edit: I've had a chance to try this out with my other source (Passive DAC-AH with signal from Computer) and have found that it has much less of an impact when compared to my CD player's analog output. I've also found, like devast, that it makes very little if any difference on my low end AH-D1001 cans & PPAv2 when compared to my power amp setup (Cambridge 650A / Paradigm Atom). It makes listening to the slightly sterile bright sound of the Cambridge a little more pleasant.
