Why am I thinking about my HD800 pre-order as I read this?

Well done, dude, and congrats.

Oklahoma needs more phones. I expect to see that van in my driveway this spring. Perfect time for a visit to Tornado Alley.

Well mate if you spend less time riding and writing here and more time answering my email I'll kick in the order on that balanced system we talked about Something bad before something good ey?

Oh and good luck with belly button from overseas... also is it an iny or outdy?

Step One) Get that Belly Button fixed.
Step Two) Stash the 'hog.
Step Three) Rev up the Van.
Step Four) Load it up with gear.
Step Five) Drive that sucker all the way to NYC like ya used to.
Step Six) Party. Leave the Profit worries to the new boss.

Like Erikzen linked, we'd love to see you again over in NYC Tyll, come hang out, check out the PS1000 possibly if you haven't, bring an HD800 since we haven't, and attach your stuff to anything with an open plug. Heck, I'll even toast you with one of my two remaining Headroom mugs!

It's an outy now, that's for sure.

Pic! (not safe for a work or the feint of heart)

Tomorrow it'll probably look like road kill.

And I'm still thinking about the NY meet (if you'll still have me after that pic),
but if I go I'd fly out there with just a few new toys for a quicky.

We'll see.

Let's get passed this last disturbance and talk about HeadRoom's new CEO for a bit.

You can't get a much more different person than I, and that probably accrues to the plus side in this case. I really like Travis.

He's a thirty-something, Harvard MBA, with goodly experience in small to medium manufacturing and as a CEO.

So far, so good.

He comes into this situation and got right to business: cost cutting.

I need to take a moment here to recognize the fact that the economy is in crisis at the moment, and everybody on the globe is staring down the barrel of a gun. If HeadRoom's ownership had done nothing at all, I' would have been having to make horrific cuts myself.

In fact, I already had. Between October and December I had already laid off thee people and take an over 20% personal pay cut, and I knew that was just the introduction.

Travis got to work identifying all cost that could be cut, and toggled everyone for ways to plug any and all holes. He also immediately developed a picture of a skeletal team that move the company forward, and released the folks who could be without damaging the corporate mission.

You hear of numbers like 750,000 jobs lost per month these days. Having seen 8 go myself, before my very eyes, I can't hardly imagine the difficulties many have to overcome these days. I can only hope we all have the backbone to do the work needed to pull the US and the world out of this hole without too much more pain and suffering.

Gone are Andrew, Sten, Debbie, Lori, Tara, Andi, Joe, and Jeanne. But Ivy, Roz, Jorge, Jeremy, Ben, Mike, Mario, Trav (different one), Matt, Susan, and myself with Travis remain. You may notice, if you've been around a long time, that you'll recognise many of the names of those who remain. That's because Travis recognised the amazing strength of culture in customer service we have here and made sure to keep all the folks that are critical to our ability to serve our customers.

I would have done it differently than Travis, but I have to tell you, I think he did it better. Thanks, man.

He also recognised immediately that one of our greatest assets was our web site. We get 6000 unique visitors a day! His first major objective has been to focus very tightly on improving the ability of our web site to bring people into the headphone world, and get them out the other side with a satisfying pair of cans in their hands.

A lot of what I've been working on lately is copy for the website changes, and I'm very excited to tell you that you'll see some stuff SHORTLY. Maybe even within the next week. I don't think I've ever gotten anything done that fast.

Lastly, even though it's gonna cost some dough, he's let the incoming introduction of a couple of new products carry on. We (Ivy, Jorge, Mario, and I) have been saying the new products need to appear, and Travis has been willing to finance that. You'll hear more about this too, shortly, but I'd have to kill you if I said too much now.

All in all, I've got to say that while I don't see HeadRoom as such a personal adventure anymore, I do see it as more likely succeeding both in the current economic insanity, and in delivering value to my owners share down the road.

So, yeah, my baby has be wrenched from my womb, and I've suffered a bit of postpartum depression, but isn't that just the nature of things?

I can only say I'm surprisingly content with my dream job, and I can't wait for CanJam---and the economy---to come around so I can spend more time out there toe to toe with youz guyz.

Alrightythen, this is a great time for you to make ANY comment you'd like about HeadRoom, what I've done, what you'd like to see us do, what you'd like to say to Travis, or me.

Please feel free, just don't make me laugh too hard, I don't want to blow out my brand new belly button.

Do what you do best. As I believe the Japanese saying goes something like this: "Your ideal job should feel like its not a job at all, but only fun and play."
I live by that and everywhere I in my short life have gone has been mostly a joy with no regrets and only respect from fellow students and co-workers for my skill and dedication and genuine enthusiasm for what I do.

I'm quite new here on Head-Fi but you where not understanding when you said you played a major part in "creating" this hobby/marked - thats clearly the general opinion here.

Do what you do best - I believe you did that and will continue doing that

P.S. now get the new website up, new systems out and our HD 800 balanced cables out and we will bring our blood, sweat and tears to your door!

Having read the whole saga, I am very excited for the future of Headroom and look forward to owning more of its products, specifically what you can come up with now that you're not burdened with being a ceo. Being in a business program, it seems to be a great move for headroom to find the right people for the creative and managerial roles instead of compromising.
I certainly hope that in the pursuit of higher sales, higher margins and lower costs, Headroom keeps its focus on its core business, which is in my eyes its amp production. I was thinking a trade in program for amps with those traded in amps being refurbished and sold would be a good way to tap into the used market for amps and get people to try more headroom products, but obviously it's success depends on the margins you guys are making.

I've always wanted to go into marketing...

Hey Tyll,
It sounds like in a world where everyone is screaming bloody murder, headroom has kept its cool and made good decisions to save as many people it could, continue to provide real value, and treat its customers right. As I write this I am listening to the Micro stack + HD650s, Oh how sweet indeed. Thank you Headroom, and more specifically you Tyll, for all that you have done and will do. I cant wait to see what you have in store for us. Keep up the good work, no matter where life takes you. Tell Travis we welcome him and wish him good luck!

Your new belly-button fan club president,
Kevin
