Can't believe they are on 3rd pages and older! The hype goes too fast IMO.

Trust me, the "hype" isn't gone. Just look at the HD-800.

But most of the 800 thread is people saying "Why is it $1400" "Why is it plastic" or arguing about whether a $1400 aftermarket cable could be worth it. That and speculation.

There was no anticipation for the grados, and if there was, no one would be hoping that they would be in the sub $1000 range like most hoped for the HD800. There is also not much speculation, because I get the feeling that they are going to be shipped very soon. On top of that, even here, grado doesn't seem as popular as sennheiser.

I don't think that's really the case. People just geek out when they hear Sennheiser is creating something new because they're one of the most well regarded and well known names in headphones, and they also created one of the best headphone systems of all time with the Orpheus.

If you were to start a poll asking which everyone preferred, the results would be a lot closer than you might think.

That is possible. I may just have to start a poll. I did forget one point though. The fact that many are/were underwhelmed by Grado's last flagship effort in the GS1000 has probably tempered excitement a lot and caused many to adopt a "wait and see" attitude. That isn't to say that the GS1000 isn't fantastic. I haven't heard it, but it certainly doesn't have overwhelming support.

Very good point regarding the GS1000. The few prototypes that exist are rumored to be incredible. Hope to hear one one day.

I owned one for a period of time and found it to be nowhere near as disappointing as some have found. In fact, at its current market value of $650-700 I find to truly be a bargain. I would take it again over every other headphone in that price range.

I hope to hear the GS1K and hopefully the PS1K at meets in the next few months. Not that I could be in a position to buy either one any time soon, but I would like to know what is out there. I know that I am really excited about the PS1000, and I would be much more excited if there was a chance in hell that I could own one within the foreseeable future, but I just couldn't spend that much on one piece of gear until I am well into a career.
