new sr60i better than the old sr60? - Page 3

Gaming isn't the prime directive.

Only found this thread this morning when I was looking for comparisons of the newer SR60i to my existing loved to death SR60 pair.
Primary concern for my phones is music quality, but I did notice the huge boost the Grados gave to ambient sound effects in games and positional location for in the-thick-of-it fights over much cheaper in-ear rubbish I have previously used (Sennheiser MX550 for example).
Thanks for the tip about ATH-AD700 they look nice for the cash too but I just spent £88 on SR60i cans so another £110 just for gaming is OTT.

The i's have it!

Ok, just took delivery of my new SR60i's and compared them to my elderly SR60 pair. The deeper sound cavity seems to give more body to the midrange and a brighter treble response, bass is resonant and clear, the stereo picture slightly busier and more direct in it's positioning. An allround improvement in the sound for the same price as 5 years ago. It's not revolutionary but evolutionary and a damn fine upgrade.
I really can't fault Grado for their rock reproduction, The Offspring sound as tight and frantic as I remember them live and the clarity of the picking on Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd a joy to behold.
Lovin' it!
