Hello All:
Seriously looking at picking up a RSA or Pico amp of some variety to run from my 4th gen Nano to my phones. My question is - are the P's going to be "nasty" amped, and/or is an "S" converter a must have for these amped? Other phones used will be Image X10's and Phonaks.
Thanks in advance,
gg

Why would they be nasty? I really like how they sound with my e5, can't imagine what a real amp like a Minibox E+ would do for 'em!

Try something like the Minibox or XM5 so you can switch to the "S" with a push of a button.

I have a set of Er4-P's with the conversion S cable. I amp them through my equipment line, in my signature at bottom, and usually just run them through the WooAudio3. They sound the farthest thing from nasty, absolutely clear and articulated. Without the cable they retain a little more bass and are obviously louder at lower volumes, but with the cable and a must needed amp as it raises the impedance to 100ohms they are very sweet sounding. Wo the cable they are rated at 88% accuracy but with the cable its something like 92%. Trust me an amp and the cable are a wonderful purchase. You can get the cable off headphones.com.

I thought I might have been the only one to amp the ER4S with W3. Good stuff.

I agree with the Minibox E+ recommendation. The PtoS switch plus the bass boost get them sounding like they should. I think I actually like them better than my DT880 now...

My balanced ER4-P out of my RPX-100 is to my ears one of the best phones to be had and made me sell both GS-1000 and L3000 but I'm probably an extreme case

ER-4P with "S" converter and Supermicro is MUCH better than ER-4P without converter-cable.

I'm a bit curious on this subject, are you not contemplating any fullsized cans for classical/acoustic, and if not can you really live with the soundstage of the IEM's?

Edit. I guess that the detailed sound of the ER4-P's compensate for the lack of soundstage, I have just noticed that I get listening fatigue faster when listening to cans without a large soundstage, it must however be noted that my rig is nowhere near yours.

I actually really liked the GS-1000 for these types of music but is in a position where hardly ever can use open phones and with the balanced cable and in my rig the ER4 has plenty soundstage for me and the speed and detail retrival is unmatched. Also the quality and quantity of the bass is great for al but dedicated rock for which markl is building me a LA2000 but with a stock L3000 cable in place of the normal Jena cable to keep the cost in perspective since that kind of music consumes less than 10% of my listening time. So all in all I think I have found the ideal setup but it does look stupid and feels stupid to have $6000 rig driving a $150 set of phones through a $300 cable

A bit over the top but not stupid. I'd love to hear those ER4 like that. You obviously didn't build that rig overnight either so much thought must have gotten you to where you are now.
