I would check out the new DAC's from Danish Audio Design. I have the Monster DAC from their former company ONTech, and I'm very, very happy with it!

Are all these other dacs that much better than the Benchmark Dac1, or a Bryston CD Player?
The only Separate Dacs ive played with here are the Alien Dac and one by Creative.

Museatex Bidat with full upgrades.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Levinson yet...

Good to see some love for vintage DACs in this thread. I'm real curious about the old Pacific Microsonics and BIDAT, especially compared to the Berkeley Alpha and EMM offerings.

I hope to some day complete my collection of "Dream DACs", some of which are under $5k:

Pass Labs D1 (check!)
Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 Mk.III (check!)
Spectral SDR-2000 Pro
Meitner Bidat
Mark Levinson no.360S
Classe DAC-1
Assemblage DAC3.1 Platinum
Sonic Frontiers Processor 3
Manley Reference HDCD DAC

I think that's about it... the only digital source component I'd ever break $5k for would be a top-tier EMM piece...

If I made a list, it would look pretty similar to that. Good stuff. =)

I feel like I may have forgotten a couple... tell me what would be different on your list!

Well, I still consider myself a newbie, so my list is actually somewhat smaller than yours. I'd put a modded Parasound 1600 up there, though.

I would add the Goldmund Mimesis 10s and 12s.

The question is waaay out of my league, but Meridian don´t deserve to be in the list?

McIntosh MDA1000 or MCD500, this is based on hearing older versions (like MCD301, and their higher end preamps with/without digital inputs, I've no personal experience with the MDA1000 itself though, nor its transport partner)

Don't MDA1000 cost like $8000 though ?
