Do I have the newest style RS1? [pics] edit: yeah RS1i

i picked up a pair of RS1s on ebay new in box a few weeks back, #7378. after reading some of the threads on new grados, mine have a few curiosities that got me wondering. some things i noticed:

- buttonless (obviously)
- round pegs
- serial number is scratched into the inside of each black square plastic peg holder thing, which i cant see on pics of other buttonless RS1s
- also serial # burned into the side of each cup
- thick cable (each cable after the y-split is as thick as the cable on my SR60 pre-split)
- 4 individual wires connected to the driver or whatever inside each cup

i didn't think any of these were out of the ordinary until reading some of the new threads popping up. i can take pics if anyone's interested. sorry if none of these things are any different from the regular buttonless RS1.

here are some pics, sorry about the crappy quality, all i have is my iphone. i couldn't get a good pic of the SN scratched into the inside of the plastic L/R square things.

RS1 on left, SR60 on right:

Any chances of pics of the driver housing? I'm curious about these 4 wires connected to the driver as that is a lot of wires for a driver.. usually its 2.. no idea what the current RS-1's have though but I'm curious

my iphone camera isnt good enough to get a pic, but i can try to describe it. the main rubber covered wire in each housing splits into 2 sets of 2 tiny wires connected to each driver, 2 are red and 2 are blue in the left housing, and in the right 2 are white and 2 are blue. so there are 4 tiny wires soldered to each driver

Older model just have red & black on left and white & black on right. Just 2 wires per chanel.

Beez, for the left channel, are the 2 red wires soldered to the same point/location or not really? Thanks.

yeah the two red wires are soldered to the same point, and then the two blue ones are soldered to a different point

I got mine last weekend from ebay so I'm curious as well. Yours look exactly like mine. The first thing I noticed (other than incredible sound of course) was the cable thickness, nearly twice as thick as my 325is (gold version). But they're outstanding regardless.

Congrats.

I wonder if its like.. active grounding built into negative and positive.. basically a 4pin xlr in the headphones?

Thanks Beez!

Mine from December still have the square rod and thinner cables, and the mahogany is great deep shade. That said, I am definitely interested in finding out what, if any difference, the cable change makes to the sound.

It seems Grado has been making changes to a lot of their headphones recently... I wonder what they're doing.

I have a newish pair from the past few months, bought from a local head-fi-er that are exactly like that. The box is clearly markes rs-1, no button and lighter shade wood. afaik the "new" models have some sort of -i designation?

PS, what is "square rod"? All grado's I've ever owned had the same rods?
