Does my setup qualify?

I haven't been on head-fi long but I've enjoyed the "High-End" forum the most. My question is this: does my setup qualify as "high-end"?

For about ten years the system I enjoyed was speaker-based. It was a Krell KAV300cd -> Bryston BP-25 -> pair of Brystom 5B-ST -> Bryston-built Waveform Mach 17 active crossover -> Waveform Mach 17 tri-amplified speakers. It was all hooked up with Transparent cables and a Cinepro power conditioner. That system established my benchmark for what a hi-fidelity stereo system could reproduce.

So, is my modest system in my signature worthy of "high-end"? When I had my first child I moved the Waveform system to my father's house so he could enjoy it. I read the "definition of high-end" sticky but it only partially answered my question. I'm just interested in feedback from veterans of this portion of head-fi.

Thanks to all that take the time to respond!

If you don't think it's the best sounding sytem in the universe you obviously don't qualify.
My system is the best, so I qualify.

looks like a good start.

Let's just say that there's lots of room to upgrade. But, if you like it, then it's all that matters. The actual definition of high end is very debatable. To me it's the point at which technical issues no longer get into the way of enjoying music, and differences in presentation are merely preferences rather than technical merits. Which basically means that the rig is flawless and utterly transparent, but with room to be voiced in different ways.

My current Opus 21 --> 717 --> O2 Mk1 rig is nowhere near my own definition, though with a few tweaks, or perhaps a different source, it could get close. There are only a few things wrong with it, but given the utterly insane and ridiculous transparency of the O2, they stick out like a sore thumb.

Not quite High-End imo.
There are certainly rooms for improvements, perhaps especially in amplification...

But most important, you hopefully enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies! I feel like I have a good grasp of high-end in 2-channel stereo, I just don't know how that translates to headphones.

BTW - I am enjoying the system very much! It needs some finishing touches (and I can't wait for the Woo!) but it is making music.

Again, thanks.

Your system is awsome. Relax and Enjoy.

When it comes to systems, I find there really is no need to ask others approval.

I find that the search for the "sound" begins and ends from within you. Once you feel completely and unequivocally connected to your music, you will just know.

Once the music starts playing, the equipment disappears. There is only the music.

It's 3:30am in the morning and I'm glued to my music right now Damned drug I tell you!

Man, this place cracks me up!!

I completely agree that there's no need to ask for approval with a system...my question is more targeted as to whether or not I myself am "approved" for contribution to the "high-end" forum. I didn't want to step on toes contributing to this portion of the site.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I sure am enjoying head-fi.

Errr it doesn't matter what you currently have. What matters is how well you know high-end gear and how much you can contribute. Naturally, without having it one is less likely to have experience with it, but there isn't a "required stash" threshold, only a required knowledge one.

Well, theoretically, anyway

My dream system when finished.....

Bryston amp
Woo2 Preamp/headphone amp
Gallo Nucleus Reference lll Speakers
SVS Sub
I have a Rotel CD Player now, might change that
Magnum Dynalab Tuner (my Adcom GTP400 tuner/preamp is too warm)
Signal cable/Audioquest

I think thats plenty high enough. To get better, youd have to spend 4 times the amount imho.

When I think of high-end, I think "If I told an average person how much I spent on this piece of gear, would they look at me like I was totally insane?"

You have, I think, a $1,500 CD player and a $1,000 tube amp.

Oh, and at least one $1,000 pair of headphones.

I'd say having any one of those qualifies you.

Ignore the folks who confuse "high-end" with "ultra high end".
