Luckily since it was fulfilled by Amazon they have an easy return policy. There were three big give aways which I request everyone to check (I do not have a real IE8 for comparison but I am sure there is no way the real one has these flaws).

1. Flaw one - build quality of the cable
The minute I removed the earphone in my hand I knew these were a fake. The cables are poorer in quality than my old CX300. There is no way Sennheiser (specially Sennheiser) would use such a cheap cable.

2. Second Flaw - When I when to insert the plug into the player I noticed that the silver part of the 3.5mm plug looked as if it had some moisture on it. It wasn't spotless and shiny but looked as if it had been cleaned before. ALso the plug just felt cheap!

Here is where I knew something was wrong. I use the Sony X series player and when I inserted the plug of the IE8 I heard a scracthing noise, as if the plug was not making proper contact with the MP3 player. When I rotataed the plug it kept adding the static noise. There is once again no way Sennheiser would use such a cheap plug on their flagship earphone.

3. The bass knob - when I tried to adjust the knob it had a horrible cheap feel to it. I haven't tried tuning a real IE8 but the knob didnt rotate smoothly or click smoothly. It was as if it was just falling around.

The sound - the earphone sounded horrible. The sound was absolutely muddy with the highs totally rolled off. The bass was just a boom in the background. Sounded like a $10 earphone.

I hope this helps people - Sarjo Wholesale on Amazon sells fake
Sennheiser IE8's and I would not buy any other earphone from them.
I hate to revive a old thread, but here you got the IE8's from another dealer, ok still amazon verified that is terrible.

But in my case, LOL, i'm going to make sennheiser remove amazon from their authorised dealers, and if they do not, i will take some sort of action against false claims that they distribute, either amazon or sennheiser will pay for my lost time, troubles.

I bought them from amazon.co.uk, from amazon themselves: amazon EU s.a.r.l. = genuine authorised dealer according to 2 customer service employees working at sennheiser UK. (i called them)

this won't be the last case neither the first: "They won't forget my name, that's for sure."

Was wondering if anyone had bought IE8's from this buyer and could tell me if they're fake, or if anyone just had an idea whether they are or not. Price seems a little bit too good to be true, but not totally outlandish.

Probably fake.  If the seller was really offering authentic IE8s, the starting bids wouldn't be $0.99 (AUD).

The winning bid was but it's a good point. for example, I'm still trying to get rid of my AKG's. Now I could start the bidding at £0.99 and hope that they'd get a decent price, but IO have them on sale for £69 (I paid ... £89) the thing is when you now that it's real there's no need to start the bidding at that price. I want real money for my AKG's because they cost me real money. My bid for a sub £90 pair of headphones used would be £75 at the min.

AU $158.05

I found some IE8 OEMs on ebay for $23.00 (yes that is correct) so I am not expecting much but the sellers reviews are really positive, one review said they sound the same as the real sennys, so if it sounds anything close to them I will be happy. If they turn out to be defective then they have a return policy, and if they ditch, then I lost $23.00, nothing to cry over.

I will be back with a review on them, hopefully it will be positive

I picked some of these up just to check them out.  I have to say at $23 it's at the very least an interesting experiment. I'm letting them burn in now but the initial impression is that they're easily worth the money.  The soundstage is more spread out and has a more open feel than the Similarly priced CX-400's I own. They do not have the low end impact of the 400's though so I'm hoping that will change with a little burn in.  For the price they're a great sounding in-ear!

I was wondering which seller you purchased them from.  I too am willing to roll the dice for so little money, but I figure the odds are better if I use your experience.  Also, how long did it take to receive them?

don't know if it is fake over China overruns. But its a great deal, seller has lots of other stuff up for sale but very few replys.  His site says no returns but when I emailed him he said he will accept returns it they are damaged or did not work.  I'll let you know.

HELP! I'm not sure but I think Ebay's parkin78 sold me Fake IE 8's!  However I need confimation before I send them back and Blast him on EBay.

Please review these pics and let me know.

Bar code is more to the left which has been identified as a Fake marker.

I couldn't tell if the letters were raised or not, the lighting from other examples make it hard.

The logo looked very good to me, is this correct?

Everything looked well packed and professional.

Another picture of the packing. Big worry is that it did not come with a metal storage box.

And the cables did not have a twisty to secure the cables they were just wrapped.

The skin tone if the picture was hard to compare vs the identified fake image.

Lastly the "R" was slanted as expected but I didn't see the red wire in the cable connection. "

So what do you say to these inexpensive Ebay specials.  They sound o.k. on my cowon J3 but not exceptional;  maybe its because my ears are tuned to my Weston UM3x.  Maybe its becaue they are Fakes!  They are more spacious than the UM3x but not the killer bass I expected.  These are a gift for my kid who is a bass head to go with his new Apple Touch.  I have found that using the Cowon EQ's I was able to really make these phones sound much better.

comments please.

To me the thin part of the "S" looks thicker than mine, but that could easily be a trick of the light...much easier to judge in person I imagine.  I think the red wire is important, but I could be wrong.  The slant of the "R" doesn't seem to matter as real ones have been both slanted and straight.  My advice, since you already have top tier phones is to simply compare them to them and some throwaways.  Ultimately, it looks as if the fake market is so saturated that the only real way to tell the difference is through the sound.  I always thought my IE8 where real but wasn't ultimately convinced until I had other nice phones and realized that they are very similar to expensive IEMs and not at all like ibuds.  Not having the metal case is weird, even most fakes come with the case.

Funny thing is that at first I said these are terrible, then while search the web and listening to them for a couple of hours. They started to sound pretty good! Not as good as my little babies the UM3x.  They are much better than first impression.   Maybe it just ear tuning and all the Fake post that got me overly concerned.

The amount of threads and posts I read about these being fake, I decided to just purchase the DBA's instead. biggrin.gif

What I know it that the easiest way of telling if they are fake or not is if you can see the red chip wire in the 'plug' part of the cable (it's meant to be more noticeable on the right) - As far as I can see in your pictures I don't see them at all, seems like a very transparent 'plug' instead confused.gif

Did you get them for dirt cheap? If so no doubt they are fakes - Are you happy with the sound? Is it what you expect?

Plus, at the end of the day, if your even questioning them being fakes, they most probably are. wink.gif

Plus I'm sure you get A LOT more tips with real IE8's...?

@zipur

from your pictures, the S logo lines seem thicker although this might be because of lighting.

and there are couple more types of tips included with mine.

also, on my ie8's jack, I can't see the white stuff inside that can be seen inside yours. Again, this could be bad lighting.

And the ie8 logo on your 'splitter connector thingy' seems a little bit dodgy

I can tell you if you bought it from hong kong at this price , it is 100% fake. IE 8 is selling like 350USD  in legit Hong Kong  retailer shop as far as I know. The cheapest IE 8 you can find in Hong Kong is the the import from non legal distributor which still costs you around 300 USD. Yes, IE8 in Hong Kong is not cheap, so as other headphone products. You may have wrong impression which products coming from Asia should be cheaper, normally it is true but you can not apply this theory to Hong Kong headphone market.

The bottom line is that any thing selling at half price is most likely bootleg. Why you get a IE8 so cheap? Considering Hong Kong is so close to China and China is well known producing fake IE8, you probably figure out the reason.
