Best drum albums?

What can you recommend for music with lots of drums or simply just drum based music?

I haven't listened to much really, but my favorite so far is Billy Cobham's Spectrum.

By drums do you mean percussion? Various styles and different types of drums? or just albums with great drumming in general?

No matter how good a drummer/percussionist is, they wouldn't be able to hold my interest for more than 2 minutes. Drum solos suck.

A drum-based song doesn't necessarily have to be a solo.

Brent Lewis has several albums with 100% percussion, featuring a chromatically tuned set of hand drums that he invented - I think he calls it the Ikauma. It's decent music, but very mellow.

Also try Amampondo, from South Africa. They are awesome!

^^^Agreed. This was suggested to me by a friend who plays drums.

Another recommendation is Art Blakey & The Jazzmessengers

Jazzy with African and Cuban drumming influence. I am sure others will chime in about Art's extensive catalog.

If you like middle eastern sounding drums this is excellent. Also the Sheffield Drum Record is pretty cool just for SQ. Recorded direct to disc.
Big Black "Ethnic Fusion" has some nice percussion on it also.

Scott Henderson, Steve Smith, Victor Wooten - Vital Tech Tones
Al Di Meola - Land Of The Midnight Sun
Joe Satriani self titled (1995)
Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
and anything by/with Art Blakey, Roy Haynes, or Lenny White.
My 3 favorite drummers.
