Hi

I like my 5800, but I would love it, if it would play FLAC. -> Nokia released a SDK for this device and it is really good. It has a 5800 Emulator and it can be combined with netbeans, if you know what I mean (programmers).

If somebody is skilled enough, s/he could make a FLAC player or plugin for the 5800. If I would have the skills for this, I would do it.

I'm sorry I can't help you, but it would indeed be great to have flac support.

Those are just numbers. Some of the best numbers might not produce the best sound quality. So rather than relying on numbers, its always better to rely on your ears, since (to repeat the cliche), everyone hears differently. In my opinion of course.

I don't have a 5800, but my partner has a 5310 XpressMusic and the SQ on it is miles better than most smartphones I had.

SQ is very phone specific. So while there is a red thread between all the XpressMusic versions, 5800 defiantly does not equal 5310 and shouldn't be look as the same how ever much Nokia or SE or how ever wants you to believe that.

i believe nokia has extremely precise marketing, so 58 is better than 53 in ex series. nokia tube is just short of n91 sq.

If I ever get a 5800, I'll be sure to let you know. Nokia N91 produced more hiss than I would have liked, so I don't think it will be difficult for the 5800 to put it down -

so opposite opinions everywhere...

I have an 5800 and what i can say is similar to RAFA's experience:

Highs:
Good and detailed

Mediums:
Nice and crisp, with a bit of emphasis on this band

Bass:
Not bad, although can be better with a bit of eq

My tests have been with HD497s, i'm waiting for the Phonaks PFE.
BTW, if someone can test the phonaks with the 5800 and try and answer calls that would be greatly appreciated.

So would you guys say get a 5800? I had a N91 still got it somewhere think i'm using it as a paperweight lol. Or would you think it would be better off just getting a Sansa Clip? And getting a phone with better camera say?

The N85 I have now is respectable, better to my ears than my recently-sold iPod 5.5G Video and perhaps even comparable to my old Cowon iAudio X5L. Everything just sounds right, it has a warm sound signature (possibly different than the 5800XM?), and the RMAA results are actually quite similar to my X5L. I'm quite impressed, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 5800XM could compete favorably against dedicated DAPs.

For anyone wanting to use the phonak PFE's WITH MIC on this phone they won't work. They need a workaround, an adapter to switch the grd and mic contacts. Or else just tape the mic button stuck and at least you can hear music.
