the small size of the internals make it beg for an optional portable enclosure. Would that not be the ultimate portable solution with an imod?

x2 id buy one in a heartbeat!

i can already picture it. a cut out on the top so the imod can slide in nicely into a dock and so the entire top bit is flat.

POWERING SPEAKERS THRU THE AMPHORA

I am putting together a desktop rig starting with a imod and hopefully
the Amphora my next piece would be a pair of speakers im all ears to any advice on a good pair that would match up with the Amphora, my question
for my choice is the Audioengine 5's, will the Amphora push these powered
speakers. thanks for any input.

Hi ALL EARS,

Yes, you can use the Amphora to drive the Audio Engine A5s.

These speakers are already "active" speakers (they have a built-in amplifer to drive them) and built-in volume control, so you can actually drive them directly from the iMod.

Best regards,

Vinnie

On a budget, you could always get the upcoming Pico DAC-only, or an iBasso D10, or build an AMB Gamma 1 DAC and have a great DAC with line out for the Amphora with your Mac G4. Even the Super Pro DAC707 Ken sells sounds close to the Headroom Micro DAC and Pico when using a good regulated power supply (sigma 11 or an SLA battery). I have one so I know.

I haven't heard any Audio Engines, but I own a pair of Tekton Design Full Range speakers paired with a T-amp, and they are amazing in clarity, warmth, and imaging. There's a lot of speaker builders out there using Foxtex Full Range drivers, I think Cryoparts is developing their own set of full range speakers as well. I think you can ask Tekton to apply a custom layer of wood that can match the amphora, and the other manufacturers like FritzSpeakers do this as well (nice to get the whole wood theme happening )

In terms of amps, I definitely love T-amps, and there's a lot of manufacturers of these as well..Kingrex, Trends, City Pulse, etc. Check out the NuForce Icon as well.

Ken do you have any pictures of an Imod Amphora? I like HeadphoneAddict's idea of a small dac to fill that space if I get the standard amphora.

No not yet. I have the very first one we made which was a test piece and is Purple Hart, it came out so well I had the laser guy number it and we are going to use it. However I am not going to be using Purple Hart so I did not want to take a photo of it. I will have some up shortly that use the ipod dock.

Thanks

Ken
