Is that real mother-of-pearl (nacre) used for the logo lettering?

Hey Guys,

Most of my orders are filled or in the process of being filled. If you were on the list and did not get a email from me please email me. I think I got everyone who we had a amp for. We were short of iPod versions and are making more. The supply will be slow and we will have a wait after this batch is gone.

While I am waiting for my webmaster to list the Amphora at the ALO website, I have some Standard Walnut Amphoras still up for grabs. All the ipod versions are sold. I think we have one Padauk Standard left also. Email or PM me if your interested. Also dont forget, if you want to add something, headphone Sig 30.2, Wadia iTransport, Speakers, cables etc.. ask and I can mark the added item down.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing people impressions who have bought one.

Ken

There's a bird's eye version? Just piqued my interest now.

Now that some Amphora amps are being sent out, a few experiences I have had during burn in of the Vcaps.

They are notorious for having a lengthy and significant burn in. My amp sounded thin at first then quickly became nice and bloomy, detailed and sweet, then a bit darker, then back to sweet and started to head into the luxurious audio blissful sunset. Real creamy and warm, wildly musical with beautiful imaging and placement of instruments, the decay, magnificent.

So its a bumpy ride all the way out to about 200 hours. Point being that the amp will significantly open up and continue to improve.

Cheers

Ken

HI Ken,

When it comes to connecting my iMod to the Amphora my best LOD-RCA and LOD-mini cables are from you, but they ALL already have blackgates in them for iMod. How much will that affect the sound in my testing of the Amphora?

I do have one $60 solid dead soft silver in silk insulation LOD-mini that has no caps (use it with portable Vcap dock). I could use that if you think that will be a fair test of the Amphora with the internal Vcaps. Or, I could use a DLO HomedockHD with RCA out into the Amphora using an ALO SXC IC, but I don't know the quality of the cabling inside the DLO dock.

Which would you suggest?

Hey Larry,

The Amphora your receiving has the optional ipod dock built in. This is the best and most direct way to connect your iMod to the Amphora.

Thanks

Jealous...

...I just convinced my mom to order one for my dad (I know, it makes me sound like I'm 15 years old). He's an impossible-to-buy-for music lover. Good news is she said that she'd want me to hold on to it until the next time they visit...ohhh, that made my day...

I can't wait to hear a proper review from Larry. I received my Amphora a few days ago, but my ears are not nearly as experienced.

It's currently still burning in, but sounds great to my ears (warm and very musical just the way I like it). The Amphora was able to even give a pleasant note weight to my often too airy K701s. A huge step up from my favorite portable amps and rightly so.

Lamenthe, when you've burned in the Amphora and listened to it enough to know that your assessment is holding true over time, would you let us know the names of your favorite portable amps from which the Amphora is such a substantial step up?

When you've burned in the Amphora and listened to it enough to know its sound well, I would very much like to know how you assess its performance in comparison to your M^3 with STEPS. An Isabellina DAC + Amphora - WOW!!!

Will do. I've heard an Isabella w/ DAC & Headphone Amp and the Amphora before at a Charlotte, NC meet and was very impressed. That's what led me to talk to Vinnie about an Macbook/Isabella setup. I'm still burning in the Isabellina but I liked it straight out of the box.
