iPod LOD with USB "Male" Connector

Can anyone direct me toward a high quality cable (I'm about to send an email to Ken Ball at ALO) that is configured just like the standard cable that Apple supplies with every iPod that has a Line-out connector on one end and a "male" USB connector on the other end? I basically want the same cable on a higher quality level to be used with an integrated car audio system that has the female end for the USB connector already built in. TIA

why?? those cables are just USB cables; they dont have an analogue line out signal present in them, so you would be paying a stupid amount of money for the same thing. i'm a believer in expensive or high quality cables where there is room for improvement, but I dont consider USB cables to be one of them. its a digital signal and the stereo will have error correction. I have built ipod LOD's with a mini USB port in it in the cable exit. so the pinouts arent difficult if you wanted a DIYer to do it for you. but i'm not sure I understand why you would want to. I mean I suppose the I2S stream would theoretically be transmitted in a more efficient way, but what audible benefits there may be I dont know. If its one of those 'just so I know i'm giving the audio signal its best chance so I can sleep better at night' things, then cool... I understand really I do

That's about what it is. My knowledge on the technical aspects like the elements that you mention is limited. You basically think that going with the cable Apple supplies is all that is really needed to "give the audio signal its best chance?"

well I havent tried out an expensive USB cable, but I cant see there being much room as its data being sent. are you in a hurry?? because I could knock one up and see. actually I can do an experiment tomorrow or the next. I used cryo silver to wire up my USB connector in my VCAP dock I can do a comparison between a regular USB extension cable plugged into the apple cable and plugged into the computer playing lossless digitally; then I could compare to the ipod playing through the mini USB port on the VCAP. they would bot be using a stock cable as the interface to the MAC, but the interface to the ipod would be of different quality. what do yo think of that?? I mean there will still be a 'weak link' but it would be the same weak link on both. alternatively I had actually planned on trying out making a silver USB cable for my gamma1 just for kicks and because it will look cool. I wanted to see for myself even though I dont see how it could, but i'm open to it being different. sound OK?? because you can bet you would get charged through the nose from ALO

q, don't go to all of that trouble on my account. I certainly appreciate your efforts and if it would be something that you have fun doing, or that you're planning to do anyway, I would be very interested in the results. I just was hoping that I could find something similar to the Apple supplied cable that might be better in terms of signal transmission, and durability. (maybe even in appearance)

alright cool, because I am pretty busy with cables at the moment, but I was going to make one for my gamma1, just maybe not for a week or 2. if you can hang out till then that would be cool. thats the idea for me apart from interest sake. making a nicer looking and sturdier cable

Sounds like an interesting idea. I have read posts at head-fi in the past where the value of a quality USB cable was debated. I am certainly not in a hurry. I will definitely be waiting to read about the results of your test...thanks
