Kind of pointless starting a topic like this when nowhere bar a few select people have even had a chance to try the X1000. Either way, it's gonna be hard sell even if does sound great to convince anyone on that price tag ...

but the x1000 have a new dsp chip? no one's even interested? guess the wifi shiat is the reason behind the huge price tag. have to compare x1000 price to s9 at my side.. soon.

It's going to be a few weeks at the very least before anyone gets the new Sony dap, so it can't be compared with the Cowon S9. People have got to hear it first, and as far as I know, only one or two people have heard it, and they didn't go into any details about the SQ at all, other than to say it was 'very good'...

soozieq, i thought i read in your post that your's has been dispatched?
usually reviews all say very good.
i am quite used to sony's sound sig, meddle with EQ settings alot for different music genre since i don't have a portable amp.
thus i was thinking x1000's new dsp could be "the one"... heh heh

Oh, we're interested, there's just nothing to discuss with utterly scant info on it.
Hmmmm. That thing looks good.
I'm not fan of touch screens, but thing looks just about the right size.
I've got a OLED on my Clix and it's bloody excellent so I'm sure that one on the Sony is aswell.
Wonder when we'll start getting some prerelease reviews
Wonder what the EQ and LOD capabilities will be like
sony have done very well with sound for a long time but i have little hope that the sony will rival ~1993-5 minidisc units they made. as soon as they started making them small, the sq dropped way down.
im sure this sony will be great and maybe better than their current offerings but it is still a tiny device trying to do everything: it won't be the messiah we are waiting for. im sure of that.
they should fully drop the wifi and concentrate on SQ centric type player, but still its not a hefty price tag since they will undoubtedly price it in direct competition with the touch which no one has a problem paying for.
I was a bit disappointed with the D2 sound (compared to the X5), so I am a bit nervous about the S9, and I am tempted to try Sony.
Agreed with the price: I doubt Sony will do anything else than match the touch pricing. There is no way the lambda buyer will give Sony a premium over Apple.
I am also now interested by the new Sony Ericsson phone (Idou?), could be a nice one! But then again who knows what the SQ will be like?

wifi still kinda useless on a 3in screen, itouch's is jus the right size IMO.
maybe i will jus get S9 for its beautiful screen.
I'd have thought the screen on this Sony will be as good as the S9...
if you can wait for some reviews or spring (europe) / summer (US) to test it out yourself, then wait for the sony, otherwise if you need something now, S9.
